Jane entered the large house in Beacon Hill after what felt like the longest day ever. All she wanted to do was get into bed with her best friend and sleep until noon. As soon as she entered the door her phone buzzed with a text from the precinct, asking her to come back if at all possible because they needed her help. She groaned quietly thinking about going back to work. Jane decided to head up the stairs to check on Maura before going back to the precinct.
Jane crept up the stairs trying to make as little noise as possible. She opened up the door and peaked in at the doctor. Maura's hair was splayed all over her pillow; her shirt had ridden up almost to her chest. Her arms were out from her body and the blankets had been pushed down.
The detective smiled at the sight in front of her, taking just a moment to view the doctor at her most peaceful state.
"She's so adorable," Jane said hushed.
Jane walked over to the bed and gently nudged her friend. "Maur…Maura…it's me." The smaller woman barely moved and moaned something barely intelligible.
"Ja…bed."
"I can't, Maur. I have to go back into work. They need my help."
"No…" she groaned. "You just got here." The doctor was trying to become a little more alert to have this conversation. "Come to bed, please, Jane?" Maura looked so small when she was tired, and Jane could barely turn her down ever let alone when she looked this cute.
"I'll see you in the morning…ok?"
"Just lay down with me for a minute. Ok?"
"Ok," Jane agreed.
The detective climbed into bed and pulled the covers up around both of them, lying on her side to face the smaller woman.
"Stay…?" It was a whispered question by a very tired doctor.
Jane didn't respond at first, just stared at her friend.
"I can't believe you are here, Jane. I waited for a long time; I even left you some food in the fridge." Jane smiled at the thought of Maura trying to wait up for her.
"I'm here now, Maur."
"Prove it." It was a simple command that sent Jane's head spinning. The detective was already struggling keeping her hands to herself and her thoughts reigned in being this close to her beautiful best friend.
Jane thought for just a moment, looked up at the doctor's closed and tired eyes, and made her decision. The taller woman reached out her hands and placed her warm fingers on the doctor's taut stomach. Maura flinched at first from the contact then melted into the touch. The smaller woman let out a msall moan and instinctively placed her hands up the detective's arms rubbing small circles on her biceps with her own thumbs.
"Come closer," Jane whispered.
Maura obliged gladly and began to scoot closer. Jane helped her by allowing her hands to drift around the doctor and settling underneath her shirt at the small of her back, effectively pinning her against the detective.
Maura breathed in the scent of Jane and finally felt relaxed. She had one more request of this woman.
"Jane…"
"Ya, Maur."
"Kiss me…"
Jane's fingers that were racing patterns on the smaller woman's back stopped all movements. She glanced down at the adorable, sleepy doctor and placed her hand at her chin. The taller woman tilted Maura's chin up and gently placed her lips where they were needed most. It was a soft, warm kiss that melted both of their hearts.
"Mmmm…" Maura moaned.
Jane smiled at the doctor's omission, pulling her closer so their bodies were completely pressed together.
"Night, Maura."
"I thought you had to go back to work."
"No, this is exactly where I need and want to be…" Jane said, placing a kiss on the doctor's nose.
Maura smiled, making her grip firmer around the detective. "Good night, Jane."
