Revelation
A Queer as folk Drabble.
A tag to episode 120.
"I told him he could see me in his dreams."
The weight of the crown on his head offered no real comfort to Justin. Sure, he was the new King of Babylon. He had shown Brian what he was missing out on. He had even stolen Brian's prey from underneath his nose. But in the end, he still didn't have what he truly wanted: Brian. His love, his attention.
Sitting in the Liberty Diner booth across from him, he felt the greater weight from the things he craved.
His pull of the past evening had gotten too clingy. He kept asking when he could see him again. And it drove Justin crazy. Why couldn't he understand that for him this was a one night thing? A distraction. A way to get a subtle revenge on the one he really wanted.
Why couldn't he…?
Brian stared at him across the booth as he regaled Ted, Blake, and Michael with the tale of the previous night's conquest.
Their eyes locked.
Justin understood.
Memories flooded his mind. The very first time. The race down the hospital corridor. The back of a jeep, with a pink faggot on the side in the daylight. A tiny baby with a teddy's name.
The school steps. And that little goodbye.
"You'll see me in your dreams."
And for that one moment, squeezed into a booth, oblivious to anyone else, they came to an understanding. No matter what Brian claimed, they were more. Much more.
And all was revealed.
A/N: This is one of my all-time favorite scenes. The subtle connection between Brian and Justin where they come to understand each other a little better.
