So I was looking through my computer, and I found this. I didn't realize I never posted it. So why not now? :)
Remember this is just a one shot, but in the future I might add on to it.
Hope you guys like.
If you'd like, maybe leave me a review on what you think of it.
I listened to soft music of the guitarist, or as the town calls him 'The Troubadour.' It was as if he was playing my life's theme song. I tapped my foot and hummed along to the melody. I sat at my usual table, the one in front of the window. That was my spot. I even once debated to myself to carve my name into that table, similar to the doodles I left in every menu.
I was only trying to let people know I was there. Sort of claiming my territory.
I stared blankly out the window. I watched and waved to the familiar faces. My greetings vanished as I heard his voice.
"Want your usual?"
I turn to find the tall, scruffy man in plaid, aside of me. "Yeah the usual." I reply. Usual. Was it me, or do I seem to be so readable?
The man came back to my table, this time with food. I chewed slowly, savoring every bite. "Mmm." I hummed.
"Good?" the man asked.
"Excellent." I reply with a smile. The smile soon fades and my mind wanders.
"You okay?" the diner owner, or as I call him, Luke, wonders.
"Kind of. Just thinking about things."
"Like?"
"Would you miss me if I left?" I asked, meeting eyes with Luke. I never realized how blue his eyes were. It made me wonder: Had I missed out on a lot?
"Of course. Why? Where is this coming from?"
Maybe I'm not totally transparent. "No where. I was just thinking."
"Alrighty then." Luke smiles and carries on with his work.
Luke's smile. Man he could light up a room with his pearly whites. His smile is amazing… HE is amazing. Gosh if I can only tell him.
"Hey Mom!" I hear. I direct my attention to my daughter.
"Hey Hun." I say happily. To her, I know, I'm readable. But that was fine by me. We were mother and daughter and not to mention the bests of friends. "So how was your day?"
"Great. I just finished with the paper." she gabs on about her day, and her crazy classmates.
I once again look out the window. I seemed to be drawn to the blue sky and green grass. But what was so different about today?
"Mom…Mom!"
I lock eyes with my daughter. "What?" I ask innocently.
"I asked if you could ask Luke for some fries." she questions.
"Sure." I agree. I stand up from the table, and head to the counter where Luke is checking receipts.
"Rory's here." he states.
"No really? And all this time I thought I was talking to Madonna." I reply sarcastically.
"Rory is prettier." Luke banters back.
We share a millisecond of laughter before we meet one another's gaze. "Ah…Rory…wanted some…some." I begin to stumble over my words. I lose all capability to talk.
"I have…have to finish these." Luke says.
"Yeah I should…get back." I point behind me to the table.
"Oh okay." Luke turns to walk to the kitchen.
"WAIT!" I shout, getting his attention.
"Yeah?"
"I want a rematch!" I declare.
"What?" Luke asks confused.
"I want rematch from yesterday." I say remembering yesterday when Sookie and Jackson were on their date. Luke and I say at the counter, playing cards, letting the time pass.
"Uh…sure. When?"
"Tomorrow night." I sets the time.
"Here." he sets the place.
"So it's a date?"
"It's a date." He smiles.
I take my seat, my daughter just smiles, and I do too. The Troubadour finishes his song. He holds out on the last note, letting my life song continue…until tomorrow night, when I see the pearly whites and blue eyes of the man in plaid. I soon shall carve my name into his heart…just like his name is on mine.
