"Well it's definitely one to tell the grandkids, 'your grandad and I left the church after we got married in a police van' but I suppose this is luxurious compared to what you had at home." Lucy said as they drove away from the church.
"It's not the first time I've seen one at a wedding, a lad I went to school with left at least 2 of his in police vans, if I remember the first one was for nicking a car so he could get there and the second was something to with a bank robbery to pay for it."
"What a heartwarming story."
"I think I got off lightly with only dad being arrested, but it's certainly not the first time it's turned out that the something borrowed could be called permanently borrowed."
"What? You got arrested, what for?"
"Not me, my dad and it's probably best you don't ask."
"What's with the borrowed, I know I didn't have a veil and used the curtain but I was planning to send it back."
"What? No, I was talking about." He stopped himself mid sentence.
"About what?"
"Nothing, nothing at all."
"Lee." She said in her best 'The rent is now 4 months overdue' voice.
"I promised your dad I wouldn't."
"What's dad got to do with it." Lee shifted awkwardly in his seat and attempted to change the subject. "We're married now, we shouldn't have secrets."
"I know, why do you think I cleared out my old room when you were at work."
"If you don't tell me, don't even think about consummating anything for at least a year." Lee was about to explain when the van came to a sudden halt and the rear doors clanged open.
"We're here."
Whilst they were waiting for the photographer to decide which of the they endless groups he wanted next Lucy hissed in Lee's ear.
"Don't think I haven't forgotten about our conversation in the van." Before he could reply the call went out for the groom and the best men. 'Don't worry I haven't' Lee thought to himself as he waited for the ordeal to be over. Not even the arrival of the predictable drizzle could dampen the photographer's enthusiasm for snapping increasingly random groups.
Mercifully the speeches were over quite quickly, especially with Tim's insistence to try and shoehorn in as many jokes in a short of space of time as possible, and Frank who was cut off by Lee after his opening line, thankfully he decided against making a reference to Lucy's underwear but instead went for 'I may not have been the greatest father.' So he rather sensibly proposed a toast instead.
He barley got to see Lucy once the reception was in full swing and they had finally got more than 2 minutes together after their first dance when Tim came over.
"I'm going to bed now, it's been rather a long day and I wanted to give you this." He handed over a small package. "This isn't your actual present, but it hadn't arrived when I left so it will just have to wait."
"Oh, right, thanks mate."
"I know books aren't your thing Lee, but you might find this one quite useful." Daisy came over as Lee was unwrapping the present, a Spanish phrase book.
"Thanks Tim." Lucy gave him a hug.
"Muchas gracias."
"I didn't think anyone had noticed, not that you should be looking, you're a married man now."
"No Daisy, it's Spanish for thank you very much."
"Ooooooh, well have a lovely honeymoon."
