Vermillion
A sweet scent found drifted through the night wind.
His ears twitched as the hypnotic whine of her soul stealers was carried with that wind.
Without a thought to his traveling companions, he stood and raced into the dark thick of trees.
She is everything to me
The unrequited dream
A song that no one sings
The unattainable
And there she was.
She laid gracefully on an old branch of an old tree, glowing like a goddess as her demons brought her souls.
How beautiful she was. . .even in death. Her earthy brown eyes slid open, falling hauntingly on him.
Her eyes, are like an angel's. He thought as he returned her gaze, unwavering. An angel of mercy. . . And of damnation.
She a myth that I have to believe in
All I need to make her real
Is just one more reason
I don't know what to do
And she makes me sad
"Why are you here, Inuyasha?" She asks. She sounds neither disappointed to see him nor happy.
"I caught your scent." He said, as though it explained everything. "What? I'm I not allowed to see you anymore?" The priestess stepped down from her perch on the tree, seemingly floating from the branch.
"My incarnation was right, Inuyasha." She crossed the distance between them as she spoke, her demons following her every step. "I do not belong in this world. I am but soil and spells. I am dead. I have no right to this body. . . And no right to you." Her words, though were not meant to hurt him, caused his heart to bleed.
It wasn't true, he told himself. Yes, she was dead, but at the same time she wasn't-- at least not to him. She was more the a clay body, she was more then just a spell or a fake kept alive by the souls of dead women.
She was Kikyou. Right? She was the greatest priestess of the era. She could not simply be brought down by a jealous bandit's trickery, she had proven that by returning from the dead. So if she could overcome death and betrayal, why could she not be with him?
I won't let this build up inside of me
A catch in my throat, choke
I'm torn into pieces,
I won't, no
I don't want to be this
But I won't let this build up inside of me
"Kikyou," he whispered, taking her cold- yet oddly warming hand in his. " you may not belong in this world. . . But you belong in mine."
A bitter empty laugh escaped her vermillion lips, pulling her hand from his she shot, "Such sweet words my dear Inuyasha, but I'm afraid their about fifty years to late."
His heart was crushed but he forced himself to look her straight in the eye. "You don't love me anymore?"
Something reflected in her eyes, sadness or despair he wasn't sure but he knew he saw pain.
"I can't love you." Her words were so hallow they echoed, threatening to crack and break- spilling out every word she wished a hundred time over she could say to him. She turned away from him, and began to walk away.
I won't let this build up inside up me
She isn't real, I can't make her real
I won't let this build up inside up me
She isn't real, I can't make her real
I won't let this build up inside of me
"Kikyou, stop." He called to her, reaching for her again. "Wait, please."
He caught her by the arm and turned her to face him, her eyes down cast to the ground.
"Kikyou. . ." He wanted to say something- anything to make her stay but nothing would come. His hand lifted and brushed her midnight-black bangs from her eyes. Her name escaped him once again as he brought her closer to him, gently pressing his lips to her's. Her arms wrapped around his neck as she leaned into the kiss, hoping for all the world that it would never have to end.
She isn't real,
I can't make her real
She isn't real,
I can't make her real.
