Disclaimer: I don't own RENT. This is the last conversation April and Roger have before she kills herself in the play. Because in the movie Chris Columbus had them find out they had AIDS together, which wouldn't work.

Pet

"I want a pet."

"What?"

"I want a pet." April said again, a little louder.

"No I heard that. Why?" Roger asked, putting down his guitar on the coffee table.

"Because." Roger shot her a look, and she added, "Because I said so."

Roger ran a hand through his hair, an exasperated look on his face. "No way. We can barely afford food for the five of us. He was being extremely reasonable, or trying to be. In all honesty, Roger wouldn't mind having a pet. Maybe a big dog.

"Well then," April purred, crawling closer to where Roger was sitting on the couch. She put her head in the crook of his neck and lacing their fingers together. "I can tell you almost said yes."

"Yup."

"When your band gets discovered, we'll buy a whole zoo." She murmered, snuggling closer to him.

Roger chuckled. "A zoo, huh? Who's going to take care of these animals?"

"We will, silly." She replied, slapping him playfully in the chest.

"You can feed the lions." He said, laughing.

April frowned into his shoulder. "Don't mock me." Roger just sat there, laughing. When he finally died down, April asked, "What else do you think will happen when you get discovered?"

Roger smiled. "Well when my band gets discovered we'll become filthy rich. We'll move into some pent house suit. We'll get married, have kids. They'll run around the zoo we'll buy."

"Yes kids." She said with a sigh. Roger looked down at her a questioning look in his eye. She smiled up at him. "It sounds perfect." She put her head back into the crook of his neck. The phone started ringing but both of them just sat on the couch. A loud chorus of April, Benny, Collins, Mark, and Roger all yelling, "Speak!" At the top of there lungs.

"Yo Rog, practice in 5. Be there or be square!"

April kissed his neck whispering, "You better go. They get pissed when you're not there on time."

"Guess so." He untangled himslef, packing his quitar up. He started opening the door, but he heard quick padding on the floor and turned around. April quickly jumped up on him, wrapping her legs around his waist and kissing him fiercly. She stopped, pressing her forehead against his. "What was that for?" He asked breahtily.

"Just because." She replied. Unwrapping her legs from his waist. "I love you Roger."

"I love you too." Roger said, "See you later."

"Yeah," April responded hollowly. "See you."
