In the year 1773, Mike Degrassi and his new wife, Molly, moved into a beautiful house in the town of Linden Oaks, which was not Degrassi yet. Mike's great uncle Thomas had owned the house. He died, and had left the house to Mike. So, lucky Mike got a beautiful house for free.

"Such a beautiful house," Mike said to Molly and his daughter, Josie, on the day they moved into the house. "There are enough rooms to have twenty seven servants. But who says we should stop at twenty-seven servants?"

"I'm going to explore, Papa," said Josie. She loved exploring things. When she grew up, she wanted to be an explorer. But her father had always told her that women could never be explorers. Josie refused to believe that.

Josie walked up the house's huge and beautiful marble staircase. She walked into a hallway and passed some rooms. After a minute or two, she spotted a closet. Josie didn't know why, but she had a strange urge to investigate the closet. She opened the closet door, walked inside, and shut the door.

Josie investigated the closet. There was nothing in there. She had no idea why she had an urge to go in there. Josie turned the knob on the closet door to open it, but the door wouldn't open.

"Stupid door!" Josie yelled.

Suddenly, the doorknob started to turn red. The temperature of it changed from cold to extremely hot. Josie tried to take her hand off the knob, but it wouldn't move. Her hand was stuck to it! All of a sudden, Josie saw a face—a terrifying face. It was the last thing she ever saw.
