Everything Comes Into Focus
Down and down faster and faster the sled went. The memory of love flew through Jonas's mind. Then Jonas felt the cold snow touch his skin. He laid face down in snow freezing. He nudged Gabe, whose body now limp in Jonas's shirt. "I'm sorry Gabe." He said to the body. Then he fell silent on top of the hill. All of the memories he had left and new ones filled his head. Memories of The Giver, Fiona, Asher, his father, his mother, Lily, and a woman. A woman he knew to be Rosemary. As Jonas laid in the snow dieing he heard a voice. Then he saw Rosemary standing in front of him surrounded by light holding a giggling Gabe. "What are you waiting for?" She asked him. "I want to take you to Elsewhere along with our brother Gabriel." She finished offering Jonas her hand. As he took her hand he could for the first time hear music, and he felt something as he looked back. He saw his body lying in the snow. He felt loved.
