CONSEQUENCE IMMORTAL
A Daughter of Time side-story
The Hero looked around the clearing. Oh how he wished she would appear from one of the houses and embrace him. But Fare was only Hylian. His wife had died a century ago, then his children, then his grandchildren. They were all dead and he was alone.
He glanced at his left hand; the Triforce mark almost invisible. Somehow, he still had this tiny piece keeping him alive. Why? The Heroine had been awakened. Why couldn't he die? The shadows seemed to shift and move, a figure stepped from them as dark as the shadows themselves.
"Mourning over that pathetic wife of yours? You should be ashamed" it smirked. The Hero jumped up.
"Fare was wonderful! She was courageous, beautiful and kind! Leave her out of this!" he hissed at his shadow. "Out of what? I only came to tell you about that rather stunning great, great granddaughter of yours. I'm sure you've realized something is...wrong. I have to thank you though. Whatever you've done, she can't kill me till your dead." The shadow replied.
"I've done nothing! Her Triforce is still locked! She...She lacks the key! She needs to fight for someone, for something, not just because she's been told to!" The Hero said, agitated. Dark smirked. "Oh, I think that can be arranged" The Hero blinked "You want to...help her kill us?"
Dark's smile faltered and he scrambled for words. Link stared disgustedly at his dark side. "I can't believe you! You're in love with her! How can you love? You shouldn't feel love! " He shouted.
"Well she loves someone else, alright! If they die, she'll awaken her Triforce! You know what it's like to lose someone you love! Your wife, your kids...your fairy" Dark cried.
The old Hero slumped down. "Navi..." he whispered. Dark's smirk returned. "Hit a sore spot, have I?" Link glared at him "I don't love Navi! Not like that!" but Dark just grinned "Keep telling yourself that. Ah, but what does it matter? She's dead too. Nobody you know is left, Link, apart from those liars the Sages. And you pass on this curse of immortality to your heir? You really should be ashamed." The Hero clenched his fists "How can you say that? You've ruined lives and slaughtered hundreds!"
"So have you."
"I'm nothing like you, Dark!"
"I am you."
Link stopped. Dark's smirk faded into a thin line. "You forget. You created me. I am everything you're not and yet everything that you are. I am just a part of your soul that has been shut out. The Goddesses control you like a puppet on a string. They don't want you to feel anger, hate, guilt, desire. They want their precious Hero to be 'good' and 'pure'. What you want, I want the opposite. You can never kill me because you are me. I'm you, Link. Your emotions are my blood and breath."
"Dark..." Link clutched his head. "When was I created, Link? The Water Temple. Because you and your fairy succumbed to darkness. She saved you. Brought you back from the brink. Face it. You loved Navi."
"I love Fare!" Link slumped down. "Well, this was a interesting conversation. This'll be the last time we meet, we'll both be dead soon." Dark faded back to the shadows.
Link sighed to the hazy forest sky. Why does nothing ever turn out like it should?
