Their ragged, uneven breathing hung in the cold air. The sharp click, click, click, echoed off the walls, a shaking hand trying to set the lighter a-flame. Click, click, a quick flash of light showing him confined in a full-metal box, splatters of blood caked in random directions. A strangled gasp. Click, click, click, another burst of light, illuminating a pale face, paler than normal. A choked off sob. Click, cli- he was the only one breathing now, haggard and choked. A slightly more frantic pace to the clicks. Click, click, click, click. A strangled, hysteric scream. The reaction to the sight before him, presented in the quick flash of light. Normally-blond hair streaked with vivid, bright-red blood, garish slashes across the arms, legs, and torso of the petite form. Cheeks tear-stained, clothes ripped and ragged. Complete darkness, the damp air filling him with a slow feeling of terror, the only sound that could be heard was his heavy, labored breathing and the distant sound of water dripping. The eerie stillness of the room was broken by a single, scratchy whisper, "How could you, Axel?" from below him. It was spoken in such a quiet voice it seemed to have melted into the air, might not even have been said, but to him it was a harsh, unnerving screech, a blood-curdling scream, reverberating off the walls, filling him with guilt and dread. Cli- cli-click, click. A steady flame, previously-closed eyes were now open, staring up at him with stunning blue-blue eyes, holding an almost life-like sparkle to them. He leaned down and placed a barely-there kiss on the winter-cold lips. A quick check for a pulse-none, he had not expected one, there had not been one for hours. The flame faltered and died, he fell to the floor, hoping not to awake again. The last thing he saw before the flame went out was a cold, cruel smirk on his lover's lips.
