Lies and Deceit

With each simple touch, every gentle caress, a layer of his mask was being stripped away.

He cupped her smooth cheek, and whispered her name.

Gone.

A brown lock of hair flew to her lips, and he tucked it behind her ear.

Gone.

She put her arms out and hugged him tightly. He noted with a surge of joy and pride that their bodily structures fit together perfectly, as two corresponding pieces of a jigsaw puzzle would.

Gone.

"Hermione?" he whispered. He felt right at home, speaking the name that rolled over his tongue like gentle waves of the ocean.

Gone.

His previously cold facade now melted under the warmth of the embrace she held him in, which he gladly returned. The war was over, but that did not mean that old wounds would heal immediately. He shut his eyes tightly, hoping to erase a past that would haunt him forever.

Gone.

"Draco?" she almost sobbed. Her cries of despair were muffled as she laid her head against his chest. As she lamented for those who had risked their lives in hopes for a better future, the tears he hid beneath came forth.

Gone.

The twosome stood there for sometime, rocking to and fro in their grief. Saddened though they were, they found peace in knowing that they were safe in each other's arms.

Gone.

With this knowledge, both Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger understood that their past taunts of "Ferret" and "Mudblood" had disappeared, never to be found again. Their compassion for one another had only deepened during their time of distress, and strengthened into a new bond of love and trust.

Forever.
