"A magical Christmas Eve"
It was a beautifully snowy Christmas Eve in the Mushroom Kingdom. Round fluffy snowflakes were still drifting to the ground outside the window. Princess Peach carefully hung the very last ornament on her tree. She had decided not to have a party at her castle this year, as she wanted to spend her Christmas eve with just a couple close friends. She'd invited Mario, Luigi, and Daisy over for the occasion. Suddenly, she felt Mario's warm embrace, hugging her from behind. "Oh hey Mario, you startled me." She said.
"What's on your mind?" He asked, he saw that she was just gazing up at the Christmas tree for quite a long time.
"Oh, it's nothing, I'm just so used to having big parties here for Christmas." She said. "I'm not sure how this'll turn out."
"Well, I think it will be nice, actually." Mario started. "It's good to have a break from all the commotion, especially during the holidays."
Hearing that from Mario was kind of strange, as he's a get-up-and-go type of person and he always loves parties, but it was also kind of reassuring. "Now, you should probably finish preparing, Daisy will probably be here soon, you know how much she loves being early." He said. Peach just nodded and went into another room.
~A few Minutes Later~
There is a knock on the door. Mario decides to answer it, as Peach was still in her room wrapping presents. He opens the door to see his younger twin brother, holding Christmas presents for everyone. Luigi is normally late, so him being the first one here was out of the ordinary.
"Sorry I'm late, there was an accident on the way here." He said. Mario looked at his phone, only to see that it was 7:30, a half hour later than when he and Daisy were supposed to show up.
"No, it's cool." Mario responded as he led Luigi inside.
"Where is everyone?" Luigi asked.
"Oh, Peach is upstairs doing something, and Daisy isn't here yet."
"Hey Luigi!" Peach greeted as she walked down the stairs, awkwardly looking around the stack of presents that had been covering up her face.Mario took them out of her hands and gently put them under the tree. Luigi followed with his own presents.
"Is Daisy still not here?" Peach asked.
"Yeah." Mario responded.
"Oh, I hope she's okay." She said, worried.
"Why wouldn't she be?" Luigi asked.
"Well, she's not used to wintery weather, and she's not the best driver anyway, so her driving in this weather when it's dark kind of worries me." Peach said, it was true, it never snowed in Sarasaland and Daisy wasn't the best driver (to put it lightly).
Just then, Daisy bursts through the door, in just about the puffiest winter jacket they've ever seen. She of course brought presents for everyone with her. "It's freezing outside! There's that snowy stuff everywhere and it's just crazy!" She complained. She was somehow surprised, even though the weather's always like this when she visits for Christmas. She awkwardly placed her presents on the floor in order to get her comically oversized jacket off, only to reveal another jacket underneath. Many layers of clothes later, she was finally in normal looking clothes. "...But it was worth it to see your guys and celebrate Christmas."
"Awe that's nice" Peach said, smiling.
"Oh! I brought cookies!" Daisy said excitedly. "They're in the car!" She opened up the door, only to see that snow had piled up to waist height, and it was still coming down. "Never mind." She said, closing it again.
"Wait, Daisy, can you open it again?" Peach asked. Daisy opened the door again, revealing the alarming amount of snow.
"Oh my- T-Thats a LOT of snow." is all Peach could get out, even though she had lots to say.
"How are we supposed to get home in that?!" Luigi was panicking aswell. "Wait, what if the power goes out?!?!?"
Luigi And Peach continued to panic and things just kept going downhill.
It was Mario's time to step in. "Guys! I know this isn't ideal, but there's no need to panic."
"Yeah, panicking does nothing but stress us out." Daisy agreed
"Now, Let's just prepare for if the power goes out." Mario said. Just then all of the lights turned off. Everyone began to panic again, with Mario and Daisy joining in. Mario and Luigi were supposed to go to their parents house for Christmas and Daisy needed to go back to Sarasaland, but now they were all stuck in Peach's castle, snowed in with no power. This meant no electricity, no water, and no heat either.
The panic eventually died down. "Okay, everyone, this sucks, but it's not the end of the world. Princess, do you by any chance have a power generator?" Mario asked.
"Aw, I do, but is getting maintenance done."
"Now?!"
"Yeah, it won't be ready until next week." Peach said with a frown.
"Okay, we can still work with this." Mario said reassuringly. "Here's the plan: Peach, you go get your laptop. I'll get some blankets, Daisy, you can light some candles, and Luigi... You can... Do whatever I guess."
"Wow, you couldn't even give me a job?!" Luigi was a bit mad.
"It's okay Weeg, you can help me with the candles, they're on the top shelf and I can't- I mean pfft, I totally can reach them, but I uh..." Daisy said, flustered.
"You what?" Luigi asked.
"Oh, nothing." She said. "Just come!"
With that, they all split up to do their jobs.
Luigi followed Daisy into the kitchen to grab the candles.
"Wow, it's really dark." Daisy said. It was really dark and nobody could really see.
"Y-Yeah." Luigi agreed. "Where does Peach keep her candles anyway?"
"In the cupboard above the kitchen sink." Suddenly, she bumped into the counter. "Ow! I mean... NOT ow... That didn't hurt at all."
She felt around and eventually found the cupboard. She reached up and opened it. The candles were on the top shelf, but she could only reach the bottom two. She found a flashlight. "Aw sweet!" She said, flicking it on.
"Wow! You found a flashlight!" Luigi said, proud.
"Yup." She shown the light at the bag of tea-lights. "Now. you hold this and I'll grab the candles." She passed him the flashlight.
"But shouldn't I-"
"Are you saying I'm too short?!?" Daisy challenged. She clearly couldn't reach the candles, so she she began to climb on the counter.
"Isn't this a bit dangerous?" Luigi asked.
"Shh! Just hold the flashlight!" She got up onto the counter and stood up on her knees. She could just barely reach the bag of tea-lights with her finger tips. She pulled it down into her arms, but it was a bit bigger than she thought, and ended up knocking her backwards off of the counter top. Luigi quickly jumped in and tried to catch her, but ended up falling aswell in the process.
After realizing what had happened, Daisy quickly stood up and brushed herself off, Luigi did the same shortly after. Daisy just ignored what happened and proceeded to pick up the tea-lights that had spilled everywhere.
"You're welcome!" Luigi said, slightly annoyed that Daisy didn't thank him, although he knew that she didn't want him to try to catch her in the first place.
"Ah, thanks Weeg." She finally said.
"That's all I get?" Luigi was just trying to annoy her at this point.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, really. you know me and my pride." She was surprisingly sincere. "Thank you. If you weren't there, I probably would've gotten a concussion." Luigi, surprised by her sincerity, started blushing uncontrollably, but lucky for him it was dark. Just then, a candle lit up his face. Daisy noticed his blushing and laughed.
~Meanwhile~
"It's so dark!" Peach complained.
"Yeah, but it won't be that way for too much longer." Mario reassured her.
"Why are you trying so hard to make this better?" Peach asked. She thought this night was going to be terrible and she honestly could not understand the point of trying to save it.
"What are you talking about? This night is already awesome, and I'm not trying to make it better, I'm gonna make this the best Christmas ever!" Mario reassured her.
"I love how positive you are in bad situations." She said. Normally she would be panicking in this situation, but Mario's calmness was beginning to rub off on her. That's what she'd always admired about him, his ability to stay calm and take charge in stressful situations.
"Wow, I never really thought about that, I guess I'm just a positive person."
"Anyway, what do you have planned for tonight?"
"Well, it won't sound like much, but we'll watch a couple Christmas movies, then fall asleep on the couch. In the morning, we'll open up our gifts and what happens after that will depend on the weather I guess."
"How did you think of that so quick?"
"Hm, I don't know." He responded, simply. "Anyway, we should probably get back to Luigi and Daisy."
"Okay." With that, they brought the laptop and blankets to the living room.
As they walked in, they saw Luigi and Daisy in the dining room. Luigi was holding a lighter high above Daisy's head and she was trying to grab it. Neither of them noticed Peach and Mario's entrance.
"Hey! I'm an adult! I can use a lighter!" Daisy yelled as she jumped to try to grab it.
"Pfft! With your clumsiness, you'll burn the castle down."
"Your just as bad as me..."
"...Says the one who just fell off a counter..." Luigi said smugly.
Mario looked over to Peach, who was struggling to hold in her laughter. "These two..." He said. "You leave them alone for ten seconds..." Mario joked, shaking his head for emphasis. At this point, Peach could not hold in her laughter any longer. Luigi and Daisy looked over at the two. Embarrassed, Luigi quickly passed the lighter to Daisy, Who quickly lit a candle and put it on a table as if nothing happened.
"I wasn't going to mention anything, but, how did you fall off a counter." Peach asked as she looked at Daisy, bewildered.
"Well, I was trying to get the tea-lights and... Let's just say you should stop storing important stuff on the top shelf."
"So you climbed on the counter to reach them?"
"Yep."
"Why didn't you just get Luigi to g-"
"I was trying to prove a point okay?!"
"Okay. Jeez." Peach said, backing off. "How about we go see how the hecc the guys are planning to set up a movie without wifi..." The Mario Bros had left a while ago to set up the movies.
"Umm, Peach?"
"Yes?"
"You do realize DVDs are a thing..." Daisy said in a sarcastic tone. Out of embarrassment, Peach didn't respond and just continued to walk in the direction of the Mario Bros.
As They arrived in the living room, the guys had already lined up all of their favourite Christmas movies: Elf, Home Alone 1 and 2, The Santa Clause, and many, many others. They all sat down comfortably on the couch in front of the laptop and began watching their first movie.
About halfway through the first movie of their marathon, Daisy was already lying down, asleep with her head rested on Luigi's lap. Mario and Peach were quietly talking about something unrelated to the movie, but Luigi wasn't paying attention, he was just gazing down at Daisy as she slept peacefully. Mario eventually noticed how quiet he was.
"Hey Weeg, everything okay?" He asked.
"Huh? Oh, yeah." He answered, not looking up from Daisy. "She's just so cute when she's sleeping."
"Awww! Luigi!" Peach squealed. "When are you just gonna tell her you love her?"
"I-I don't know..."
"It's okay to be nervous bro, but you should just go for it!" Mario told him.
"Ugh, I want to, I really do, but it's so hard to tell if I should."
"What do you mean?" Mario asked.
"I mean... Sometimes it seems like she might like me back, but other times it can seem like she hates me."
"I know exactly what you mean." Peach started. "She's like that with everyone, though. She's just really stubborn, and she doesn't like letting her guard down, it's who she is. But I don't have to tell you that she has another side to her, a part of her she only lets the people she trusts see. You know exactly what I mean."
He did know exactly what she meant. Daisy can be stubborn and grounded sometimes, but he also knew that she was Sweet, caring and thoughtful. He was just grateful he ever got to see that side if her. That's one of Daisy's many qualities that he liked. She wasn't exactly an open book, and Luigi found himself learning new things about her through their jokes and conversations. It was then that Luigi knew what he wanted.
"You know what? Tommorrow, I'm going to ask her out on a date."
Peach almost screamed, but she stopped herself, not wanting to wake Daisy up. After that she was left speechless. Mario finally spoke up. "That's great bro, I'm proud of you."
Peach finally found her words. "Yes, this is great! Oh my gosh, we can all get married, and then have like ten kids split amongst our two families, then we can maybe even merge the Mushroom Kingdom and Sarasaland and we can all live in this huge palace and we can convince our kids that they're all siblings and we can spoil them rotten and then I can bake cakes for all of us and we can be a big giant happy family and... Yeah, it'll be great!"
"Woah, slow down a bit Peachy." Mario told her.
"Yeah, we don't even know if she'll say yes." Luigi added.
Peach almost burst out laughing. "Pfft! Of course she'll say yes!" Luigi gave her a confused look. "Look, I didn't think I'd have to spoon feed this to you, but she definitely likes you. She's asleep on your lap for mushroom sake!"
"I just hope we can be like you and Mario someday." Luigi said.
After that, they continued to watch the rest of their Christmas movies, chatting every now and again until they all eventually drifted off to sleep.
Daisy was the first to awake the next morning, only to realize that she had fallen asleep on Luigi's lap. She carefully sat up, being extra careful not to Disturb him. She looked over at Mario and Peach, who were also still sleeping soundly. Peach had her head gently resting on Mario's shoulder, and even in their sleep, their fingers were interlocking. She looked over at Luigi, then carefully copied Mario and Peach's position with Luigi. She only stayed like this for a brief second, before she started looking through Peach's cabinets for something they could all have for breakfast when the others wake up. This proved to be difficult, as the power was still out, so it couldn't be something that needed to be cooked or refrigerated. She eventually decided that everyone would just have to deal with apples and bananas for breakfast. She went back over to the couch to wake everyone up.
"Hey guys! Wake up!" She said while shaking everybody awake one by one. They all eventually got up And began to talk. Dispite being snowed in, everyone still had so much Christmas spirit. They all greeted eachother with merry Christmases and everyone was super excited to give their gifts (and maybe get a couple too).
They all sat around the tree and began giving out their gifts to everyone. The next few minutes was just a blur of tearing and unwrapping, happy faces, 'Thank You's and hugs. Even though they were still completely snowed in, they still managed to have a great time.
"I'm so glad we all got to spend Christmas together." Peach said.
"Yeh, I bet you're glad you didn't have a party this year, if you did you'd have the whole kingdom stuck in here." Mario mentioned. Everyone chuckled at the thought.
"Umm, guys..." Daisy started. "Can we go outside in the snow?" She asked. Everybody laughed at her childish request but agreed anyway. It wasn't snowing anymore, but there was at least 4 feet of snow. They all made snow forts, Had snowball fights, and just ran around like children until the sun set. They didn't know how long they would have to stay at Peach's, but as long as they had each other, they knew they'd be fine.
Merry Christmas everyone!!!
