Summary: This was a short little piece that I wrote about a year ago, exploring how Ianto feels about the team dynamic when he first joins Torchwood, set pre-series.

Disclaimer: I don't own Torchwood but will happily claim ownership of Owen, Tosh and Ianto, since the BBC threw them away so carelessly.

They're not friends, Ianto thinks, the team.

They don't see each other outside of work to meet up for a drink or even call each other once in a while if it isn't work related. None of them knows each other' s taste in music, movies or books. Yet he's closer to them than his own family, spends more time at the Hub than his own house, would trust each one of them with is life and would save anyone of them if he had to; but they're not friends.

Ianto examines how little he knows about any of them, personally. He's read their files, he knows the facts but facts don't always tell the full story. For example, there is nothing in his file about what his favourite cereal is, or that he loves James Bond movies. Those were things that a friend would know because they'd care enough to find out, not because it was their job to.

They're not friends, just familiar strangers. They don't know each other, not really.
