I woke to a golden sunrise, blinking and yawning.

Standing up, I shook myself. A circular blue figure fell off my back.

"Leaf!" The Poliwag grinned up at me. "Yeah?" "What have I told you about sneaking up on me at night!"

"Hey, hey," she said, still grinning, "keep your fur on, I had a good reason,"

"Really? What is it this time?" I sighed. "My blanket fell off the mountain," she said, suppressing a giggle.

"Again?" I said, exasperated. It had happened before. Leaf, a Beldum named Storm, and I live in the Centros Mountains, on the edge of a cliff.

We run the Pokemon Shack, a place for travelers to eat, heal, and rest.

It's not a very exiting life, but I prefer being away from others. I am not a very patient pokemon.

Leaf is always rolling her blankets off the cliff, just so she can sneak up on me. Apparently, my expression when I wake up is hilarious.

I seized her by the tail, and threw her bodily from my room.

I took a look in the big crystal beside my bed of straw.

"I need a bath." I said to myself, looking at my creamy white fur.

A jet of water hit me in the face, followed by an outbreak of giggling.

"Leaf!" I roared, and jumped outside.

After I had caught her, and given her a few bruises, I became bored and went inside again.

What to do, Eat or train? My stomach rumbled, I went to the kitchen.

Storm was in there, she looked up when I entered, but said nothing, she was always quiet.

I grabbed some berries and a pawful of honey we got from a Vespiquen that stayed here about a week ago.

Food was never an issue, berries literally grew all over the Centros.

I slathered some honey onto a Pinap Berry and ate it in one gulp.

There was a loud thump outside, I nearly choked.

"Shadow! Storm!" Leaf called urgently, "get out here!"

We rushed outside, Leaf was leaning over an unconscious Magmar. He was soaked in blood and shivering.

"C'mon!" I said, help me pull him in!" Storm grabbed his legs and I grabbed his head. Leaf, having no arms, hopped after us. Telling us advice we already knew in a panicked voice.

"Now, be gentle, don't set him down too hard." "Leaf," I said, panting with the Magmar's weight, "Shut up! We've done this hundreds of times."

We carried him into the house, and set him down on a bed.

Leaf blew some water onto a rag, and put it on his forehead, while Storm went to get bandages.

She bound him in the linen wrappings. The room was silent.

Then, he grunted, stirred, and opened his eyes.

Groaning, he sat up, and looked around. He focused on me, and said, "Where am I?"

"Pokemon Shack," I said, "in the Centros Mountains"

He muttered something I couldn't hear, sounded like 'not far enough.'

"Well," he said, standing up, "I'll be seeing you."

"What?" Leaf said, her eyes widening, "you can't go! You're in a serious condition!"

As she said this, he winced, and sat back down again.

"no! I must go! Or you will be in great danger! I must- aagh!"

Storm had just tackled him, and he collapsed.

"Um.. Please don't struggle, or your wounds-"

But Leaf cut off her sentence. And Magmar had stopped moving.

A dark red stain started spreading along the bandages.

His eyes rolled up in his head, and he fell over.

"I'll leave it to you two," I said, walking toward the training area, I was useless at healing.

I spent the rest of the day training, and by the time the sun had set over the mountain, I was exhausted.

As I crawled into bed, I thought about the Magmar.

"No! I must go!" he had said, "or you will be in danger!"

Worry seeped into me. No, I thought, whatever he was babbling about, it couldn't affect us.

You cannot possibly imagine how wrong I was.
