Chapter
She had done something horrible, something that made her irredeemable in her father's eyes which flickered with an innate fear that he now regarded her with. She ran than into the vast woods that bordered on the Lockwood estate the full moon as her only source of light. She ran and ran until her tiny little body cried out for rest but still se went on until her spindly legs gave out from under her. She leant against a tree and curled into a small ball at its base and just for a moment she imagined for a tat the boughs were leaning towards her as the trees offered her comfort.
The peace she got from being around nature didn't last for long as a distant owl pierced the air. It sounded lonely and pained, even in her young age she hated to see anyone hurt especially animals which was why her home had turned into a veritable shelter. She stood up on shaky legs and made her way to the howl but she saw no wolf there only a car which was shaking slightly. She stumbled back and fell on her rump when a huge wolf jumped out of the window shields showing no pain even as shards of glass rained down upon them both. He prowled closer to her in curiosity but she took it as a threat.
Her magic which had remained dormant as she had not yet matured enough moved sluggishly as it reacted to her fear. It lashed out against the threat in question and the wolf was thrown a few feet away but it did nothing other than anger him. The wolf was very angry not at the fact that he was attacked but at the fact that this mere pup had challenged him. He bounded forward and leapt at her forcing her to be caged under his large shaggy form.
The bite was meant to show who was in charge the wolf didn't know that it would lead to consequences. Witches weren't to be harmed by werewolves as they were linked to nature due to their primal tendencies and witches were after all servants of nature. The healed as the venom was assimilated into her system with the help of her powerful magic already at her bidding to help her. Still the pain was immense as her body shook and convulsed, her bones were broken reformed the cracks drowning out the whimpering of the wolf still above her. She threw her head back and her verdant coloured eyes flashed to gold.
Then everything went black.

That incident happened almost a decade ago but it was still etched into my mind maybe in the daylight it was hidden in the recesses of my psyche but at night the memories would come out to play. They twist and turn coming in sporadic flashes acting as if they were a nightmare while actually the incident was a somewhat positive effect on my life. While witchcraft is perhaps the most diverse ability it is constricted as well by the feelings, moral code and of course the physical condition of the witch. The incident with the queer man wolf had let me escape from my restraints.
Magic is mainly powered by the spiritual and mental energy inside of you but witches are physically vulnerable as to keep the balance. In the same manner werewolves and vampires are both physically powerful enough to compete with one another so that they don't over hunt the humans. When a witch does a spell she knows she has reached her limit if she starts bleeding or when she starts to feel fatigued. If the witch would have had the stamina of a werewolf she would have been able to do almost anything which is why no Hybrids are allowed to exist.
But no one had ever experimented in such a manner as even Esther the witch who had created the originals had bounded his primal wolf urges due to her fear of the spirits wrath. Now this is where some people get confused as they see some witches doing the darkest magic without consequences but others are driven crazy by their ancestors. It actually depends on what source of power do you use as you can use the powers of the celestial constellation or perhaps of the nature around you. I know that over the years grandma had harvested the energy of the celestial events in crystals and every night I make my pendant hover over the cloud cover so it may leach the power of the moon and the stars.
But there are those who are not as well versed with this magic, the energy of nature slips through their fingers so they ask their ancestors for power. Sometimes a whole coven can depend solely on the ancestors' magic and they must sacrifice someone and reap their soul to show their loyalty. The soul is always returned of course but the fact that these covens are willing is enough for the ancestors. Often they use ancestral power to enhance their own magic so they are never bothered unless of course they are to be punished.
It is good that grams and me didn't contact our spirits unless accessing their spells otherwise they would have surely intervened and even now I could feel their negativity brewing but as we haven't given them power over us they couldn't touch us. In the beginning I had thought that grams would take that step that she would end me but it seems that she couldn't harm the girl that she had for all intents and purposes raised.
The most constructive attribute of this ordeal was perhaps the fact that I learned about my heritage before the age of 16 which was when I would have otherwise known this knowledge.

Mystic falls hasn't changed much even after all these years. The Lockwood family members were still entitled brats even if they had expanded their land a bit. The older Forbes was policing which was surprising but the younger one had taken their well worn mantle of being a socialite. The Gilbert family was not as important as they used to be what with the tragedy in their family and in the same manner the Salvatore line which used to be a large aristocratic family were now reduced to one lone member who lived in the boarding house at the edge of the town.
It was the same boring quaint little town where the most important things were fundraisers and social functions, a week doesn't go by without a party being thrown. It was a hotspot for tourists and college kids from neighbouring cities and also for supernatural creatures as evidenced by the fact that the Bennet family still lived here. Still I knew that wasn't the reason my little brother came here oh no he came here for the clone.
Elena Gilbert was the exact copy of Katherine from her pale hair and her dark blue eyes to her pretty lacquered toes. They were both the same from their naiveté to their selfish tendencies; both of them were poison to whomever that was unlucky enough to be caught in their clutches. As far as I was am concerned he is welcomed to the Gilbert girl because I know that he won't find what he is looking for and it will terribly disappoint him giving me ample opportunity to tease him, I got to get my kicks from somewhere after all eternity does get droll after a while.
There was nothing much to do but Stefan was at school so I have to entertain myself till he comes back and I could mock him a little. I wasn't here only because of that though I did have a goal in mind. Katherine was my goal not in the romantic sense because I had after a century finally purged my mind of that particular insidious influence and I will never invite that creature into my life again. What I wanted to do with Katherine was hurt her because she hurt me, I wanted to destroy her, boil her in vervain extract and cut her into little pieces.
My homicidal thoughts strayed when I caught sight of a pretty little brunette who was giving me coy glances. Automatically my lips curled into a smirk which many women called sexy. Aww well there will be many opportunities for thinking on my plans for Katherine but right now I had to be with someone who wished for my company badly.

"Look it's the high priestess"
One of the guys whispered and made an eerie sound, then snickered slightly another guy in response gasped dramatically and counterfeited a frantic whisper.
"Don't mock her she might hear you and turn you into a frog"
Few of the guys burst into guffaws at this point and the whole crowd laughed gaily. The smooth serene expression on my face didn't shift at all as I had practically mastered it. I walked into the school hallway and my skin tingled with the excitement that was buzzing in the air as all the anticipation of the students had seeped out and melded together to create this harmony.
I was confused for only a second until the wind carried snippets of conversation towards me.
"Did you see the new guy?"
"Man he is so hot"
"You know I heard he is from Rome"
That was an interesting, while mystic falls received many tourists due to its rather interesting history but they never get transfers. My curiosity got a hold of me and my feet led me towards the office because I just knew that he would be there. I stopped directly in front of the wide window and kept my eyes on the notice board beside it though in my periphery vision I was gawking at the new guy.
He was good looking I would admit that or at least his back was handsome. It seemed that he had some trouble with the secretary but a minute later the woman became much more agreeable, she was practically in a trance. Elena came by a minute later but before she could reach me she stumbled into the new guy as he came out the door. It was obvious they had instant chemistry and while I would mourn the missed chance with the new meat Elena needed someone to bring in some new light into her life. I just wish that the guy wouldn't be hurt in the aftermath though at least not like Matt.
I reached my first class a second before the bell rang and slid into my seat as the teacher entered and began listing the syllabus, that brief respite ended and the teacher began with the day's lesson. The monotonous day dragged forward and the only highlights of the day were the moments when I was able to breathe the admittedly stale air of the corridors during the intervals between classes.
When the bell that signalled the end of fourth period I wanted to shoot out of my seat and fly down the hallways in glee but I put a bridle on my emotions so I don't inevitably use my powers in a notable display. I took note of the fact that Elena seemed like a queen with all her adoring subjects paying homage to her. Caroline was a little further away from Elena with her own respectable sized harem and was shooting the blonde venomous looks when the model look alike thought nobody was looking.
Everybody knew that Caroline, Elena and I were best of friends when we were young up until we entered middle school. In high school they maintained a tentative truce and were frenemies; always competing for the queen bee position and I had to juggle my time between them or act as a buffer. Now though with the appearance of this handsome boy it seems that a deep chasm had formed between the two and now I don't think I will be able to be friends with both of them.
I opened up my brown bag and devoured my generous amount of chicken salad sandwiches in a dainty manner befitting of my appearance. Nobody would believe that someone of such small stature would be able to stomach so much but the truth was that witchcraft was tiring. It burned a lot of my calories and if I wished to remain healthy I had to consume food that of liberal amount. It was due to my increased diet and werewolf genes that I had shot up to an almost respectable five feet and my body gained some more womanly curves, but I was by no means as generously endowed as say Caroline.
My reconsideration of my friendship and the relationships of the people I know along with my physical appearance came to an abrupt halt when the shrill bell rang. The interruption was completely unwelcome because it heralded the approach of fifth period meaning hell whose reigning demon brand of torture consisted of humiliation. I really didn't want to but I gathered my trash and threw it in the dust bin on my way out.
I slid into a corner seat in a final bid for protection, not that I would receive it. It wasn't that I was bad at history; I knew a lot of the material due to my lessons with grams, my ancestor was deeply involved in mystic falls in the eighteenth hundreds. The fact was I didn't want to bring attention to myself and bring about his ire, after all Mr. Tanner could make anyone's life miserable for the rest of their tenure at mystic falls.
Today's lesson was the Battle of the Willow Creek and as usual the smug man took this as an opportunity to debase those who were much younger than him. Suddenly he whirled towards me with a shark like grin on his face that nearly split his head in half and asked snidely.
"What is the number of causalities of this battle Ms Bennett?"
I stuttered for a moment and Mr Tanner snapped back
"346 Ms Bennett, there were 346 causalities and no civilian victims"
Wrong I thought venomously and as if someone had heard me wish a soft cultured voice spoke.
"Actually Mr. Tanner there were civilian causalities as the troops fired upon a church which held twenty seven innocent people"
Mr. Tanner turned slowly as if the surprise of someone actually talking back to him had dulled his natural reflexes, seeing this he continued
"I am sure you can brush up on your facts, the founder's journals are open for public reading placed in the archives"
This was the perfect excuse to meet the mysterious Salvatore even the anger of Elena ant deter me. The dismissal bell rang and I took that chance to talk to him with a soft, compassionate smile on my face which was just a slight upturn of the corner of my lips but my friends always say that it lights up my face. She stuck her hand for him to shake and he did so as to not seem rude she assumed.
"I wanted to commend you for giving Mr. Tanner a taste of his own medicine"
A chill crept up my spine and with a flash I understood who, no what he actually was but I kept up the facade and forced my heart to slow down lest he hear it and assume I know his secret and find out about my own supernatural status.
"Thank you"
He said with a smile as I let go of his hand and walked away still with the same smile on my face. The fine hair if the back of my neck were raised and the skin there prickled in awareness, I knew exactly who was staring at me with such intensity. I was immersed in thinking about the most delicate way in which she could tell Elena that she couldn't not under any circumstances date Stefan without making her think that I had an ulterior motive in mind.
The rest of the day was a blur as the panic inside of me rose to its zenith and tried to engulf me but I willed myself to not let my emotions take a hold of me. As soon as I could I walked to my car, my calm facade was but a thin veneer I got in and speeded down the streets until I came to the quant house where grams lived. I parked my car automatically and rushed up the porch steps into the house itself where I immediately called out.
"Grams"
The graceful lady appeared in the doorway which led to the kitchen and was wiping her hands on a cloth
"What's wrong Bonnie?"
I took quick strides towards her and practically shouted
"Vampires have appeared in this town again, Stefan Salvatore. He is practically a hundred and forty years old"
Granny was calm though as she regarded me with wise eyes
"Meaning that Damon Salvatore is not far from here"
I shuddered at the thought of even another vampire, wasn't one enough? My grandmother continued a moment later
"Don't fear them Bonnie you can put these vampires out by a look and you are powerful enough to stop a vampire much older than them"
I breathed deeply through my nose and thought deeply on that statement and concluded that yes I was powerful enough.
"Don't let their presence scare you and steel your nerves I believe you will in need of them"
Yes, gram was right I would need her bravery because already I could feel the shadow of foreboding fall over me.
