"You can't even help, midget."
He glared, pausing to awkwardly wipe a rivulet of sweat away with a dirt-encrusted sleeve. Pointedly, he dropped the legs of the body he was helping to carry.
"If you're so tall and mighty, do it yourself."
Bakura's eye twitched in annoyance. This was a common occurrence between them, but for reasons he would rather not look too closely at, it was likely to become a crude tradition. He hefted the body up over his shoulder.
"You're making up for it with the digging, then," he retorted, "I didn't take you with me to stand there and look pretty."
"I never heard you complaining about my looks."
Yugi grinned at the other's disgruntled look, cheerfully picking up the shovel they brought with them, skipping ahead the other man to the spot they had already picked out.
Though the shorter man disapproved of many of his boyfriend's habits - namely his penchant for stealing, killing, and generally causing an uproar whenever he was bored - he knew it was an ultimately fruitless endeavour to try stopping him. Eventually they ended up making a truce to only go after criminals and other people that honestly deserved Bakura's skills and temper.
The wide grin and deep kiss he received at proposing such a compromise was well worth it.
It took almost an hour before a suitably deep hole was dug, Bakura huffing and jumping in to help with a grumble. Tossing the body in and putting all the dirt back took almost as long.
Both of them were finally heading home just as the sun was starting to rise. Yugi was busy brushing off the filth that had accumulated over the night whilst accompanying his boyfriend on his weekly prowl, glancing up when an arm wrapped around his waist.
"What is it?"
A pair of lips brushing at his throat was his only answer, their roughness making him shiver. His ears pricked at hearing a murmured thank you, and he twisted in the other's grip, looking up in curiosity.
"I know you don't like coming along with me," Bakura muttered, pulling away to look him in the eye.
Yugi smiled, tugging him back down for another kiss. "It's no problem, really," He grinned, mischief making his eyes sparkle in the dawning light, "Besides, someone's got to keep an eye on you, don't they?"
Rough laughter met his teasing remark.
