He liked her more when Daniel wasn't around. She flirted but the brazenly sexual tone she attributed to every comment diminished. As she winked at him after lying to his parents about what she did on base, Cam got the feeling this was the real Vala. Not the Vala which was so caught up into alternating between seducing Daniel into bed and scaring him there.
He knew why her parents had instantly loved her. Away from Daniel her child-like wonder and optimism about the world had seemed more natural. Her battle scars more prominent but she was more content with them. There was also something about her smile that both his parents seemed to find infectious. Cam was not stupid enough to miss his mother's constant hints and the look of disappointment when she realised Vala really was just his friend. There was no escaping it though, after all, his mum had given Vala pie.
Cam liked her smile when Daniel wasn't around. The gentle tease behind it when she was shooting with Darryl. As her lips curved in that mischievous yet asexual way, Cam thought she looked sweet. And, ironically, sexy as hell.
Cam was surprised of her slight jealousy towards Amy at the reunion. She knew the non-date parameters of this date. He was beginning to feel bad when she accosted Gary and started talking life insurance with him. As he watched her absorb the conversation he realised it wasn't Amy at all, it was just that Vala wanted a little pampering. Someone to pay a little attention to her. Daniel treated his books with more care and affection than he had ever shown Vala.
When Daniel and the rest of SG-1 showed up he felt the transformation go through the air. As usual she hung off Daniel's every word, standing as close as he would allow. Her posture changed from the confident stance to the overtly sexual, posed confidence he realised she only faked around Daniel. He caught her eyes as she turned away from Daniel and she smiled again. Not the all too sexual smile she reserved for Daniel but that one he had glimpsed in the field earlier that day. Part of him felt relived. This Vala was still going around when they went back to the SGC.
On the drive out to the airport he tried to broach the Daniel subject. He knew she knew she was busted. She cut him off with tales of the failures of her previous husbands or held out a forkful of pie to him. It felt so natural every time he took the pie off the fork, like he had known her since before he started high school.
He definitely liked her more when Daniel wasn't around.
