Prologue

Since the day I was born I have known Edward Masen.

Before that even, our moms were best friends. They grew up together just as Edward and I did decades later. They moved in beside each other years before we were born, into picture perfect white picket fence houses. On June 20th, 1987, Edward Anthony Masen was born to Esme and Edward Masen, Sr., and exactly 3 months later on September 20th I, Isabella Marie Swan was brought into the world.

From the day we met, Edward and I were inseparable.

We did everything together. We even timed our trips to the mailbox at the same time. I remember waving shyly at him from my mailbox while he grinned a loose tooth grin back at me. Edward never adhered to the "No girls allowed" rule. He would rather hang out with me than with all the boys on our block. My very first memory is of Edward sitting in front of the fire place on Christmas morning beside a mountain of toys.

He was always there in every memory I had. Making Santa's cookies together in December, and decorating them with sprinkles and icing. Going to our first concert together in Roanoke, sitting on Edward's shoulders as we screamed out song lyrics. I remember car rides home from Beach vacations, snuggled in the back seat asleep. And struggling to wash Cooper, Edward's puppy in the bathtub as we were sprayed with water as he shook his shaggy fur.

And the first time he wasn't just Edward my best friend, he was a boy with broad shoulders and slight muscles and biceps at the swimming hole, and I caught him looking at me in my first real bikini in a different way than he had ever looked at me before. And when he sprayed me with water and I shrieked and giggled it felt like flirting instead of brother and sister teasing.

Edward was always there, every memory, every moment in my life. Until suddenly, he wasn't.

A/N: OH SO SORRY I'VE BEEN GONE. This has been playing around in my head, and I finally got around to typing it up. I have most of the chapters planned out so hopefully I'll update regularly *crosses fingers*
