Vert Plaza, as Clemont knew it, was the greenest part of Lumiose City by far. Oftentimes, he would be seen just sitting alone in the plaza, admiring the statue at the center of it. Today, he was not sitting alone, and he was not staring at the statue. He was eating dinner with a certain roller skating, blonde-haired, hot-blooded girl from Shalour City. One might say they made a weird couple, but only because they looked so different on the outside. In reality, they had more in common with each other. The two both liked good food, and they liked each other's company. What more in common was needed to share a picnic with each other? They were happy together, and it was evident to everyone they knew. It was all that mattered to them.
"Clemont, this food is delicious!" Korrina exclaimed happily.
Clemont cracked a sheepish smile at Korrina in response, as if to say that he was glad she liked it.
A half-full cup of grape juice was between the couple's legs as they sat. Korrina tried to get up, using her hands to prop herself up. She had forgotten about the juice sitting between them and her left hand knocked the cup over as she tried to get up. Clemont's favorite blue jumpsuit now had a large purple stain on the leg.
"Oh my gosh, Clemont! I'm so sorry!" Korrina knew how much the jumpsuit meant to Clemont and immediately reached into the picnic basket also between them to get some paper towels to dry him off. Clemont had the same idea, however, and instead of their hands finding the paper towels packed inside, they found each other's hands. It was an unexpectedly romantic moment.
When their hands touched, both of them jerked their hands back instinctively and looked at each other in slight embarrassment. Clemont felt as if he had to say something to ease the awkwardness. "It's okay Korrina," he said as he smiled to reassure her.
Korrina smiled weakly back at Clemont as he fished out the paper towels hiding in the bottom of the picnic basket. She was startled by a loud exclamation of an "Ah, there it is!" from Clemont.
In Clemont's mind, he was thinking about how futile a task it would be to completely get the stain out with only paper towels at his disposal. A light bulb suddenly flickered on in his head. Wait, he thought, the future is now thanks to science...
The glare from the sunlight was visible in his glasses as he pulled out what looked to be a small permanent marker from his seemingly bottomless backpack. "Hey Korrina, you don't have to worry about the stain anymore. I predicted that a situation like this would happen, so I made a portable cleaning device to get rid of the stain. I call it the Discreet Detergent Delivery Device."
As he ran the pen through the shape of the stain, the stain quickly disappeared thanks to the extra-strength stain remover Clemont loaded into his device. Secret recipes formulated by Clemont were usually very effective if they weren't explosive compounds. Much to Korrina's delight, the invention didn't explode. They usually did. She cheerfully complimented Clemont. "You're getting better at this!"
Clemont, just as cheerfully, agreed wholeheartedly with Korrina's statement.
Korrina still felt guilty, however. "But I still feel bad about almost ruining it. I feel like I have to make it up to you."
"Wait, Korrina, you don't have t-" Clemont was cut off.
At once, Korrina's arms were on Clemont's shoulders. She started to lean in closer. Realizing what Korrina was doing made Clemont close his eyes in anticipation. This would be their first kiss.
To Korrina's surprise, she was the nervous one as she inched her face closer to Clemont's. Their lips awkwardly collided for a split second before Korrina suddenly withdrew from the kiss with a light blush visible on her face. Clemont's glasses were slightly skewed on his face from the impact. Both were looking lost and dazed. The two were silent, looking lovingly into each other's eyes.
"Hey Korrina, was that your first kiss?" Clemont asked, the first to break the silence.
Korrina nervously looked at the ground and kicked a loose pebble. She nodded her head yes. Clemont knew it was.
Korrina's blush turned a more visible shade of red when she realized how awkward it felt. "Yeah, I know right? I'm embarrassed about how bad it was." She covered her face with her hands in an attempt to hide how embarrassed she truly was.
To reassure her, Clemont smiled at her and adjusted his glasses to stay on his face better. "Don't be. It's fine, Korrina. It was my first as well." This comforting fact made Korrina focus on his eyes once more. She put her arms on his shoulders and leaned in again, this time more confident in what she was doing.
Clemont was the surprised one this time as Korrina leaned in again, this time more decisively. Instead of a small peck, this kiss was deeper. Both of them closed their eyes as they kissed for the second time. For Clemont, it was like having a shinx or a pikachu shocking him just the tiniest bit on the lips. It gave him a slight tingle that he enjoyed immensely and returned the favor with equal intensity to try and give Korrina the same sensation. For Korrina, she was shocked that Clemont was returning her kiss with the same passion. Clemont wasn't expecting that the kiss would make him feel so great. Korrina wasn't expecting Clemont to be such a talented kisser. Were these really his first kisses?
Regardless of the result, Korrina wanted Clemont's feedback. "Better?"
By shyly nodding the affirmative, Clemont made clear his answer to this question. But Clemont became more bold and decided to go further, teasing the girl a little more by repeating what she said to him before. "You're getting better at this!"
The smart remark earned Clemont the softest punch Korrina could give on his shoulder. It still managed to hurt Clemont. He wasn't exactly the strongest. "Ouch, what was that for?" Clemont asked, even though he knew the answer.
Korrina playfully laughed at Clemont's pain. "I like you, you jerk."
Still in pain and rubbing his shoulder, Clemont responded in the same way. "Me too."
Clemont was distracted by the setting sun behind him. It was getting late in the afternoon, and Clemont knew that Korrina couldn't miss her train if she wanted to not stay the night in Lumiose City. "Hey Korrina, what time is your train leaving tonight?"
Korrina was snapped out of her love high by Clemont's sudden question. She gave a short response. "7:30."
A quick check on his watch confirmed his suspicions and caused him to panic because Korrina couldn't get home now. "Oh shoot, we lost track of time! You missed your train back to Shalour City!" Prism Tower cast a long shadow in their direction, and the sun was sinking further into the ground.
Hearing this, Korrina grinned her widest at Clemont. She wouldn't mind spending an extra day with him. She reassured her panicked date. "Clemont, I don't mind. Really."
Words said in such a convincing manner did not convince Clemont, however. Still upset about the whole situation, Clemont thought of a way to make it up for her.
Clemont grinned as he realized he could turn this into another romantic moment. Coolly, he repeated what Korrina had said a few minutes before. "But I still feel bad about ruining it. I feel like I have to make it up to you." He omitted the word "almost" because he had, in fact, ruined her chances of going home for the night.
Clemont's arms quickly found themselves around Korrina's waist as Clemont tried to bring her closer. It was Clemont's turn to lean in. Instead of the slight buzz Clemont got before, something about being the one to start the kiss gave him something significantly more. The two knew what to expect this time, and because of that, they ended up enjoying it far more than their previous efforts. It was the best kiss the couple had shared yet.
"Oh, Clemont," Korrina sighed contentedly as her hands rested on his shoulders. She never would have guessed that Clemont had a romantic side to him. "You're too sweet."
"You too, Korrina." In truth, he hadn't expected that a girl like Korrina to kiss him on their first date.
Their expectations of one another were completely shattered. It was unexpected that the passionate girl from Shalour City would be so flustered about kissing. It was unexpected that the nerdy inventor had a hidden romantic side. Maybe spending a little more time together wasn't such a bad thing. After all, it wouldn't hurt them to find out more about each other.
