Authors note: So this is set just after the dwarves escaped from Mirkwood. This chapter is probably a little shorter than most will be. Hope you enjoy!
"Close the gates." Prince Legolas ordered as he came around the corner.
"Yes sir." Replied one of the guards. Legolas nodded and turned to leave. "Wait! My Lord!" Another guard called before he was out of earshot. Legolas turned and raised an eyebrow. "What about Tauriel?" The guard continued. Legolas tensed a little. He did so every time her name was spoken. "What about Tauriel?" He answered sternly.
"Her and her team have not yet returned." The guard said. Legolas wondered to himself if he should go out to find her, though he knew well that she was fine on her own. However, he was arguing with himself for no reason, he already knew the answer. "Leave them open another hour. I will go out and bring them back. If not all return...close the gates anyway." The prince hesitated at that last part for an unknown reason. Legolas armed himself with his bow, quiver and knives, and sprinted out into the forest. Tauriel please don't be stupid. He thought.
Tauriel yelled as she stabbed another spider in the eye. Her and her team had been taking them down one after another, but they seemed to be coming out of nowhere. She was occupied with a particularly stubborn spider when she heard the ear-piercing scream of another approaching her from behind. She whipped around to find that the spider was already upon her, and with one on either side she had a rare moment where she didn't know what her next move would be. Just then a flash of silvery-blonde rushed by her, overpowering the beasts and stabbing them through the head and heart. She didn't have to look twice to know that it was her long time friend, Prince Legolas. He turned and looked at her with his blazing blue eyes and grinned. "Need some help?" Tauriel smirked and replied. "I was perfectly capable of defeating the vile creatures myself." In a blink they spun around and Legolas was immediately back to back with her, taking down the oncoming threats. "Face it my mellon, you know you would have been helplessly pinned to the ground if I had not been there." He said. She knew he was right. But she had no fear as long as he was with her, shoulder blades just above hers. Always there, and always will be.
When the elves had defeated the rest of the spiders, Tauriel ordered her team back to the palace, leaving her alone with the prince. "Let us see who can reach the riverbank first." Legolas said in playful tone. And with that they sprinted into the woods, sure of their direction.
