PLEASE REVIEW!
We all know lance as the sharpshooter, the most perceptive of the team. We know him to be a the "comic relief" of voltron. We know that he can be jealous at times and he is a flirt, but what if it was a mask?
Think about it, in some episodes lance expressed self doubt. He thought of himself as "the 7th wheel" he thought that he was replaceable and the weak link of the team. But, we also know that Lance boasts a lot.
Here's what I think.
Lance boasts a lot becuase he is trying to prove that to himself. He wants to belive all the things he says about himself but he can't. He flirts with girls because he wants to be known as the guy who gets all the girls.
He wants to be wanted.
He's perceptive because he notices the good things in people and compares them to his own, wich he believes is very little. He is very trusting because he wants to trust people. He uses jokes because he wants to known for something. He wants an aspect of himself that people will miss.
He is told to be jealous because he feels that he amounts to nothing. It is not selfishness, as I have seen on other social media outlets, its selt hatred, telling Lance that he is not good enough.
And the rivalry with Keith?
My theory is that he used Keith as a role model and wanted to be like him.
He thought he was lesser than Keith.
He struck up a rivalry because a rival is a equal. Someone you are equal with. Lane was scared to want to be friends because of fear of being rejected. So he said that they were rivals. He honestly looks up to Keith and doesn't notice how alike they are.
They are both afraid of being rejected. They both know how to state their opinion, and so on...
I don't think that all of Lance's personality is a mask.
One of the triats of the Blue Paladin is and adventurous, and lance is really adventurous. Heck, most of the stunts he pulls are pure adventure!
The Blue Paladin is also friendly.
Lance called the Blade of Marmora the Marorties maybe a week after he met them. He told someone he had just met that he felt like a 7th wheel. He wanted to knit an alien a sweater.
Just because I'm saying a lot of nice things about Lance doesn't mean that he's perfect. He has his flaws. Everyone has thier flaws. It's part of being alive.
I hope that Lance soon knows how awesome he is.
As Allura would say "you have greatness within".

Everything else is a mask.
