A Visit with Agent Peggy Carter
It was after the first time that Simmons showed her the files that Skye began to notice her girlfriend's admiration of one Agent Peggy Carter. However, it wasn't until after the 50th time that she truly understood the scientist's admiration and decided to surprise her with a visit to Agent Carter herself.
"Where are you taking me, Skye?" Simmons asked, not sure she had any trust in Skye's ability to lead her around while she was blindfolded since it was much more different than taking direction from her while not blindfolded.
"You'll see soon enough." Skye answered with a devious smile, despite the fact that Simmons wasn't able to see it.
She led her scientist girlfriend around the next corner sharply, nearly causing her to crash into the side of the building they were cornering, before stopping at the bottom of the stone stairs that led up to the front entrance of the hospital building that they were visiting. She then removed the blindfold from around Simmons' head and gave her girlfriend a big smile, knowing that she would be returning it if she waited a moment longer.
Simmons examined the building in front of them, her brain already working to figure out where exactly they were. It took a few more minutes, but eventually a light bulb went off in her head and she knew exactly where they were. She turned to Skye then and returned her smile with a rather large one of her own.
"Skye, how did you…" Simmons trailed off, motioning at the building before them in explanation.
"I looked it up. It's not exactly top secret information." Skye said.
Simmons turned to look at the building one last time before grabbing Skye by the hand and pulling her up the stairs before them with all the excitement of a young child.
At the top of the stairs Skye let go of Simmons' hand and held the door open for her, watching as her scientist girlfriend entered the building before going inside herself, and closing the door, a few seconds later. She then took hold of Simmons' hand again and led her over to the nurse's station in the middle of the white walled, white tiled lobby of the hospital building.
"Can I help you with something?" A falsely chipper nurse asked from behind the counter of the nurse's station, offering the two women a fake smile that could have almost passed as real if it weren't for her eyes practically screaming the truth at them.
"Yeah. We were wondering what room Peggy Carter is in." Skye said, one eyebrow raised at the nurse's obviously fake smile and demeanor, wondering all the while how someone who clearly didn't want to be there ended up being a nurse in the first place.
"Friend or family?" the nurse asked as she began to look through a pile of files next to the phone in search of the room number being asked for.
"Friends." Skye said, beginning to tap her nails against the counter with Simmons looking over her shoulder in an inquisitive manner.
"There are much easier and more efficient ways of filing information that would prove quite useful if you ever find yourself in a situation like this again." Simmons stated after a couple minutes of silence, pointing out the piles of files scattered all over the counter surrounding the nurse's station.
The nurse gave a non-committal grunt in return, not even bothering to look at Simmons when she did so, and finally pulled a file out of the pile in front of her. She then opened it up and found what she was looking for in a matter of seconds.
"Room 215. The stairs are right over there." The nurse said, pointing out the doorway to the stairwell to the right of the nurse's station as she went back to whatever it was she had been doing before the two arrived, probably solitaire or something since she was looking quite bored with her job.
"Thanks." Skye said as pleasantly as she could, despite the way the nurse had acted, and led Simmons over to the door. The two then disappeared up the stairs without a glance back at the nurse's station.
It took a few minutes for the two to make it up to the second floor and even longer to find room 215 since the maps weren't very helpful and there didn't seem to be any nurses on the floor at the moment, but it was all deemed worth it when they finally found the room and paused for a moment to build up the courage to enter.
They stood outside the room for some time, each waiting for the other to make the first move towards entering the room since they didn't want to be the first.
After too long Skye gave Simmons' hand a reassuring squeeze and pushed her forward about an inch, giving the scientist just enough courage to open the door and enter the room.
As Simmons and Skye entered the room they noticed the sparse white walls containing one small framed painting as decoration; the bare furniture, which consisted of a small chest of drawers, a few chairs, and two small tables on opposite sides of the room; and an older woman lying on the bed in the middle of the room with a few framed pictures on the small table next to the bed.
"Agent Carter?" Simmons asked tentatively, hoping that they weren't disturbing one of the first SHIELD agents and completely nervous about just being in the same room as her.
"Yes?" Peggy replied, sitting up as best as she could to get a better look at her two visitors.
"Hi, Agent Carter. My name's Skye and this is my girlfriend Jemma. I don't know if you remember me, but I was the one who talked with you over the phone yesterday." Skye said, gently nudging the now unusually speechless Simmons further into the room and Peggy Carter's line of vision.
"Ah. I remember you. The newer SHIELD agent, correct?" Peggy said, giving the two a welcoming smile as she motioned a little for the two to come closer.
Skye nodded and gave Simmons another nudge forward.
"What can I do for you two wonderful ladies?" Peggy asked.
"We were wondering if you would be willing to talk with us for a while, possibly even tell us some of your personal stories about working for SHIELD and working alongside Captain America." Skye said, giving Simmons' hand another squeeze to calm her still overly excited girlfriend as she took her over to the two chairs closest to the bed.
Peggy nodded as Skye and Simmons sat down, her smile changing from one of welcome to one of reassurance.
Skye and Simmons settled in and the three women got to talking, chatting about everything from SHIELD stories to Captain America to some small talk about Hydra and SHIELD's early days.
They talked for hours upon hours upon hours, only taking a break for some food and water, before being interrupted by one of the nurses coming around to let Skye and Simmons know that visiting hours were up.
The two said their goodbyes to Peggy Carter and left, heading back to where they were staying the night with ridiculously happy smiles plastered on their faces and a day to always remember as being one of the best in a while.
A/N: Obviously I don't own this. It was fun to write and who knows maybe I'll write more fanfiction in the future. Anyways I got this idea thinking about Simmons showing Skye the old SHIELD files and Skye deciding to take Simmons to actually meet Peggy Carter. Enjoy. :D
