Twisted Sister
Night had fallen in the Lawndale and every typical teenager was out of their houses, but not all teenagers are typical, so Daria remained inside her padded room reading a book. After awhile she stopped because her eyes got droopy. She stared out her window and all of the sudden a blinding light hit her. Daria shielded her eyes, but still she could see a marvelous sight slowing coming towards the Earth.
"Aliens," she said to herself. "Aliens have come here! But, why to this stupid planet?" Abruptly the lights faded, but the trees blocked her view of the UFO. Daria decided to ignore what she saw and continued to read her book.
Later Daria started to go down stairs when she heard people talking. Listening carefully she could hear two people. One of them was clearly her mother, but the other was an unknown voice. Daria had her back against the wall and crept down each stair carefully without making a sound, diligently listening to their conversation.
"Why are you here," questioned Helen.
"To check on my daughter," the other voice replied. Daria gasped
"I told you to never come back."
"Why not? She's my child too!"
"No, you came to take her! She should never know of you! Get out!"
"Come on Helen, don't be this way." There was a moment of silence.
"Ok, but not now. Wait a few more decades." Then Daria heard a door shut and crying. She poked her head around the corner and saw Helen lying on the couch with her head buried beneath a pillow. She stared at her briefly and then tapped her shoulder. Helen emerged from the pillow, eyes drenched in tears.
"I heard you talking," said Daria.
"You did?"
"Yes." Helen continued to sob. "Who was it? And what was he talking about? Is the daughter me?"
"Well…" They were interrupted by a door opening. They turned to look and saw Quinn and Jake enter the house.
"Hey," said Jake. "What's going on? Why are you crying Helen?" He sat down beside her, looked into her eyes, and then wiped her tears. "What's wrong?"
"He came back," she whispered.
"Who?"
"My real father," said Daria. Everyone turned to her. Quinn laughed.
"Your real dad! That explains a lot!" She continued to laugh and Daria looked at her mom for answers.
"Daria's real dad is Jake. It's Quinn who isn't." It suddenly went dead silent. Quinn's mouth dropped and eyes became wide.
"How can that be," yelled Quinn. "Who's my real dad?"
"An alien," replied Daria.
"Shut up Daria, this is serious!"
"She's right," said Helen. "Her father is an alien."
"You're joking right?"
"No Quinn, I'm not." Quinn began to cry.
"Why didn't you tell me about this mom? Why isn't Daria the alien?"
"It was a long time ago, honey, and I didn't think he would ever come back."
"Don't you mean 'it'," said Daria.
"Quiet Daria," replied Jake. "Your sister just found out that she's an alien."
"She's only my half sister."
"Shut up," shrieked Quinn. "I want to hear the story from mom." Helen still sobbed but calmed down enough to talk.
"It happened about a year after Daria was born. I was at an office party and got drunk. This guy offered to drive me home, and we had an accident because he was a little drunk too. The next thing I knew I saw a bright light, and then everything went blank. I woke up the next morning lying beside a Martian, and he looked almost like Jake. I had a hangover, so I didn't know it at the time, but later I found out that an alien impregnated me. After I had Quinn he came to take her with him, but I said no. That's what happened."
"Was he good looking mom," Quinn asked.
"What does that have to do with anything?"
"Because it would explain why I'm better looking than Daria." Daria rolled her eyes and went upstairs to her room. When she got there she stared out the window and saw the flying saucer float away to the stars.
"Oh alien," said Daria. "Why didn't you just take her with you?"
