(This was originally written as an Interlude between Chapters 8 and 9 for my story L is For Lost due to time constraints of writing a real chapter. After writing it, though, I decided not to bother that story with an interruption, so I'm instead posting it as a separate entity for awhile because I didn't want to waist it.
I'll leave it up for awhile and delete it later.)

The figure hovered over the ground, his black wings spread out in intimidation of any who could see…though none could.
He held a Black Note book delicately in between his fingers like it was a precious gift he was afraid to lose. As a matter of fact, though, it was quite the opposite.
"Oops." He chuckled as the black notebook slipped through his fingers and onto the ground.
A man with long, black hair stalked by; he was sucking childishly on a lollipop.
This was the man that the God of Death had chosen, the one whom would make the story of this particular death note most interesting.
The figure stopped and peered at the book on the ground. He bent down to examine it.
Oops, I dropped it face down.
Gently he reached out a finger to touch it. The man's eyes were as wide as olives. What a funny human, the Shinigami thought.
His fingers were but centimeters from the black surface of the book. One touch, just one touch, and the entire world would change.
The black haired man sneezed and dropped his lollipop onto the ground.
"Oh!"
Snatching up the sucker like a precious child the man plopped it back into his mouth and stalked away.
"Five second rule!" He cried in jubilance.
Having as close to a change of heart as the not alive can get the Shinigami snatched up the notebook quicker than the human did the lollipop and disappeared.
This distracted man who valued his sucker more than a death note perhaps wouldn't be so fun to watch after all.
