"Dwalin," Dis says, "if you could have anything in the world, what would it be?"
It's a strange question. Now that Erebor, is back they have everything. There is no shortage of food or supplies. Never will she or her sons need anything. Thorin is once again ruling as king, and Fili and Kili are finally living the proper lives of princes.
But there is a catch. It seems even when they have found happiness, it must be torn apart from them.
"I wish that I could return with you to Ered Lindon." She doesn't see why he even needs to state it. The thought weighs heavy in their minds, in the minds of everyone. Even Thorin cannot change the fact that someone must watch over The Blue Mountains, and Dis was a loved and respected leader. How could they say no to their own people?
Dis was raised knowing the duties of royalty. She had married a man out of an agreement for her father, and all that he'd gotten out of it was two sons he never got to see grow up. Pain is not new to her; it was her constant companion in life.
So there they are, away from the mountain, and out in a field, looking at clouds.
"Thorin needs you and I need you." She forces a chuckle. "Fili and Kili need you as well. You really are tied to us."
He doesn't laugh back.
"Do you know what I want, Dwalin?" She forces a smile and points straight up into the sky. "I want to know what that cloud is supposed to be shaped like. Is that a bear or a spider?"
