This is one of a couple poems I wrote about the Greek gods. I love Greek mythology, and if I can, I will write more poems based off it. For now, though, there will only be two chapters. I hope you enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own the Greek gods. I do not believe anyone currently does. Maybe they should get a reality TV show? They have enough familial drama.
Hephaestus
I am a monster to all who know me.
They look me not in the eye
But cast me away, out of sight.
Her scorn hurts the most.
She smiles and turns, leaves me
Goes to see him.
Perfect, masculine, whole him.
I don't complain.
I never complain.
I cannot complain, they expect me not to,
For I already cause so much pain to their eyes.
I am an abomination.
Not fit to be seen
Not fit to be loved.
Not loved.
They ask for things
Receive with open arms what I craft for them.
They admire the beauty of my work
Wonder how a monster could create such designs
How those exquisite works of art could be my handiwork.
They see the beauty and the use of my work
Yet see only my looks.
They cannot reconcile my crafts with me.
We are one and the same.
