My eyes are open wide,

By the way, I made it through the day.

Aaron takes off his suites, piece by piece, and sinks onto the bed when he's finished. He knows he should get dressed. Just...not yet.

I watch the world outside,

By the way, I'm leaving out today.

I just saw Haley's comet, she waved,

said, "Why you always running in place?"

Jack changes back into his regular clothes and jams the suit into his bag. He knows it'll wrinkle, but that's not important. He pulls a hand through his hair and sighs, looking out at the dark night sky. 'Soon,' he thinks.

Even the man in the moon disappeared

Somewhere in the stratosphere.

Aaron watches the sky; looks up past the moon and stars. He looks to what he cannot see. Who he cannot see. He puts his head in his hands.

Tell my mother, tell my father,

I've done the best I can,

To make them realize this is my life,

I hope they understand.

Jack looks at the bags scattered at his feet. His walls and shelves are bare. He knows his drawers are empty as well. His thoughts drift back to that day. Is he making the right choice?

I'm not angry,

I'm just saying,

Sometimes goodbye is a second chance.

"You're not leaving, Jack!" he'd yelled. "I am! I have to! I can't stay here, dammit! I can't forget! You won't let me! I need to forget!" They'd stood in shocked silence. "Dad, I didn't mean th-" Aaron had turned away. "No. You're...you're right. Go."

Please don't cry one tear for me,

I'm not afraid of what I have to say.

This is my one and only voice,

So listen close, it's only for today.

Jack clenches his jaw. This is what he wanted, isn't it? So why does he feel like it'll kill his dad if he goes? He sees it in his father's eyes each time they speak.

I just saw Haley's comet; she waved,

said, "Why you always running in place?"

Even the man in the moon disappeared,

Somewhere in the stratosphere.

Aaron slowly stands and begins to dress. He knows he'll have to see Jack off soon. He looks back to the sky and thinks of her again. "Haley," he whispers.

Tell my mother, tell my father,

I've done the best I can,

To make them realize this is my life

I hope they understand.

Jack begins to bring his bags downstairs, one by one. Is that what his life has amounted to? A collection of duffle bags and a guitar?

I'm not angry,

I'm just saying,

Sometimes goodbye is a second chance.

Aaron doesn't want to lose him. Not like he lost Haley. He'd never had the chance to say goodbye. He wants them to part on good terms.

Here is my chance.

This is my chance.

Tell my mother, tell my father,

I've done the best I can,

To make them realize, this is my life

I hope they understand.

Jack knocks on his dad's door. "Dad? The taxi's here." Aaron rises. They walk down the stairs and load the trunk silently. When there's nothing left, they face each other. Aaron makes the first move, pulling his son to him. His tears flow freely. He is unashamed. "I love you, Jack," he whispers fiercely. "I love you too, dad."

I'm not angry,

I'm just saying,

Sometimes goodbye is a second chance.

Aaron lifts a quiet hand to the taxi as it drives his son away. He doesn't move right away. When it's no longer in his sight, he sits on the curb.

Sometimes goodbye is a second chance.
