A/N: Because sometimes life's not fair. History doesn't allow it to be.

And though Blair Waldorf might be Dan Humphrey's soul mate, he's just not hers.

S/N: Not meant to offend Dair fans, but if you are one, I suggest you don't read on.

...

Dan Humphrey would always recall the moment he realised Blair Waldorf was his soul mate. He was outside, sat on the stairs leading up to her house next to Chuck Bass who made him realise, forced him to, even in his intoxicated state.

He was in love with her. She was all he could think about, all he breathed and dreamed. She engulfed him the best and worst possible ways. He realised in that moment that he knew her now, in ways he didn't even realise. He knew what films she loved, what her favorite things where, restaurants, books, documentaries, clothes store, perfumes and fine art displays.

He knew what her looks meant, what state of mind she was in just by her posture or the clothes or she was wearing or the way she said her words.

And at that moment, Dan Humphrey knew. He knew Blair Waldorf was meant for him. He wanted all of her, good and bad. She was beautiful, intelligent, funny, creative, passionate, crazy, bossy, mean and strong headed. She was everything he wanted and more - his soul mate.

...

Dan Humphrey would always recall the exact moment he realised Chuck Bass was Blair Waldorf's soul mate.

He was sat in a chapel next to Eric van der Woodsen, Ivy Dickens and his dad and Lily, around two years since the last time he had such a realisation.

He watched his soul mate, girl of his dreamed, surrounded by a pool of white, looking more than beautiful walk up an aisle, her eyes glittering. Their vows where what hit him.

"Blair Cornelia Waldorf. I remember the first day, I saw you. Not in kindergarden when you walked in your bright yellow flower dress, but the first time I really saw you, on stage at Victorla. That, that was the moment I knew that you were it. You were the one for me and I was done for. I became who I am because of you, you saved me, and you made me, and I love you so much for that. I love you more than you can imagine and I am never letting you go again. We're each other's for life now."

"Charles Bass. You know the moment I knew we were it? I was sat just a little away from you at your father's wedding listening to your speech about love. In the face of true love you don't just give up. We sure took our time getting here, but I wouldn't change it for the world. We never gave up, and now here we are 7 years later and I love you more than I ever thought possible. You are my past, my present, my future, all of me, and more. You complete me, and I can't imagine a world without you in it. You're my soul mate, and we're done running from it. We're together now, forever."

That was the moment for him. The moment Dan Humphrey realised that sometimes life's not fair. History doesn't allow it to be.

And though Blair Waldorf may be Dan Humphrey's soul mate, he's just not hers.

A/N: It short, but I think it's true and it hits home.
