Old Times

The Akabeko was lively and full of chatter. The waitresses worked their way serving table-to-table and taking orders for those who were waiting. A family of three sat close to the back. The mother was patiently waiting to give their order while the father dealt with their giggly child pulling at his red hair.

A spikey haired teenage boy stopped at their table. Yahiko smirked and said, "Hey guys, what's up? I usually don't see ya comin' here to often anymore."

Kaoru smiled fondly at her past student. He had really proved worthy of taking on the Kamiya Kasshin Ryu teachings after these passed few years. Though only the age of fifteen, Yahiko almost seemed like a full-grown man.

"We decided to eat out for a change," Kaoru responded. "It's been a while since we've been able to get out."

"Well, I'm glad you guys decided to take your day out here of all places. It gets a little boring without someone new to talk to in here, you know?"

"I could imagine it would-"

"Tou-saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!" A child's whine broke through the confersation.

"Youch! Kenji, be gentle and please try to calm down!" An older voice pleaded.

Both Yahiko and Kaoru turned around to face the two red heads. Kenji was in a giggling fit while Kenshin tried desperately to calm the three-year-old down as the child latched onto his bangs in balled-up fists. Yahiko couldn't help but chuckle at the scene. "Just like old times, huh Kaoru?"

Kaoru looked on, slowly starting to smile. "Yeah." she agreed, then laughed. Just like old times.
