In Your Heart

The rain outside pitter-patters,

Darkening the sky like some vast demon,

Every time I hear it I want to sing along,

For the rain is my favourite song,

You are the reason why, my love.

Sixty years ago we met,

I was but a small boy,

You were a man defeated,

The Heavens were weeping for you,

But you could not hear a thing.

The creatures that held you captive,

Who forced you to work and to sin,

My innocence blinded me to it all,

You were a mystery to me,

I wanted to befriend you.

I remember you seemed to be at a loss,

With no hope to brighten your days,

All you did was magnetise the rain,

So I gave you my umbrella,

To shelter you from all your troubles.

Back then I never expected it,

But something happened in that moment,

A precious gem I would eventually find,

Between being a child and an adult,

That friendship can change with age.

When the rain pours down on our house,

Our home is always warm and cosy,

Because we have each other,

You whistle to me and I make you laugh,

Not even a curse can prevent our love.

But there is always a but,

No matter what the situation is,

You can never kiss me,

Or hold me on cold winter nights,

You're just a cricket, Jiminy.

Sometimes I wish upon a star,

For the Blue Fairy to come to me,

To take me back to that evening,

Where I first saw you in the rain,

Just so our lips could meet.

It's what you deserve, my love,

For all the things you have done for me,

Like the time you found a place for me,

To keep me dry from the torrential rain,

And that place was forever in your heart.
