Chapter One: Madam Pomfrey

Madam Pomfrey hurried through the corridors of the second floor, her robes billowing around her. What could that boy have gotten himself into now? she thought. He was always in some sort of trouble or another. In fact, she often found herself rushing to his side to mend his wounds. Other times, he was brought in by one or another of his teachers, always with a story of a dreadful accident.

She rounded a corner, and entered an empty classroom. Ah, yes, there he was. His hand was covered in blood, with no apparent source. But why was his wand out? And why was it glowing? He couldn't be trying to fix it himself; even he wasn't that stupid. Yet there he sat, his wand raised, pointed at his arm... or was it pointed at her? Yes, it was pointed at her -- rather directly.

Her eyes widened in horror. "No... stop! Please, don't-"

Madam Pomfrey's voice was abruptly cut off as she went completely rigid. The boy walked over to her, and poked her with the tip of his wand. There was no response. A trio of students passed by the open door of the classroom, not noticing the boy and witch in the shadows. As soon as they were gone, he walked out, heading in the opposite direction. As he went, he heard a scream coming from the classroom. Madam Pomfrey had been discovered!

He ran until he reached the safety of his common room.
