The Dark Side of The Moon
-chapter one-
My life was the same as anyone's at Blue Mountain Academy. I was smart enough to be there, for one thing, I had my friends, my rivals, and my enemies whom I despised greatly. But one day everything changed. That horrid day, I had a life, and a death, that would never be like the others' at Blue Mountain.
I was an orphan. Every night for a long time I watched my parents die again, and again, and again. The nightmares went on until I went out of my mind. I could hardly stop crying. My doctors thought this wasn't healthy. Finally I went away to Blue Mountain. I had stopped crying. By the time I was there it seemed I had spilled enough tears to fill someone's lifetime. I never cried again. Not for a long, long time.
I met Lilith the day after I got to Blue Mountain, the day before everyone started their classes. She shared the tower with me and many other people who were sent away. She was very kind to me. Her parents had died so long ago she couldn't remember them. She acted like an older sister to me, for she was 20 years old, and I only 17. She really loved my name. She said she would like to name her daughter Iris, if she ever had a daughter.
I was so happy to have just one friend. She was the first person who I thought actually liked me. 2 years later, we were both still in Blue Mountain Academy. Then, one day, she told me she was going.
"Where? What are you talking about?" I asked. She wouldn't look at me.
"I don't know for sure where I'll go," she told me, "I wish I could stay. I don't really think I have a choice."
"But why? Why do you have to leave? And where will you even be?"
"My faith gives me 2 paths. There's only 2 places I could go. Heaven and…" she held back tears. I wanted to cry, but I couldn't. She was talking about death.
"Are you sure you're … dying?" I asked. She nodded.
"The doctors tell me that, but I guess they could be wrong. I think this is the time God chose for me. I'm fine to go if I am going to Heaven."
"Are you afraid?" I whispered in question, still devastated, confused, and unable to truly accept the news.
"Not of dying. I just hope I am good enough for the kingdom of God."
"You are," I said. I tried to sleep, but it was hard. When I finally drifted off, my dream was frightening. I was standing on a bridge, and I was with Lilith, but she was slowly fading away. She fell off the bridge in the middle of the dream.
"No!" I cried out.
"Grab her hand, if she slips, she is lost, if not, well, I may be able to twist death around a little…" said someone new in the dream. Blue Mountain always taught to listen to your dreams, that you may discover that they were real. I didn't think. I grabbed her hand. It didn't slip.
I heard chuckling behind me and turned.
"Who are you?" I asked. It began to rain. Lightning was in the sky. I still held on to Lilith.
"Please, whatever he says, don't listen to him, let me die happy, Iris, let me die," whispered Lilith.
The chuckle turned into laughter. He was an old man who looked... a little different. I didn't know how. His eyes were cold. He looked like a normal person, with a clever, guilty death to him. Lightning struck. I saw his massive shadow, a skeleton…
