The earth died

The earth cried

The earth fell silent

Tired and hungry and lost

Children cried as the flames grew higher

As the most beautiful planet was lost forever

Once prospering cities fell to mere craters in the stone

But out there

There was a man

Working as hard as he could to save it

Saving the only things worth living for

The humans

The vulnerable, impressionable, terrified humans

As he worked, praying to whatever was out there

That he could save them

That he could save the thing, the only thing, that still reminded him of his people

Forever lost in flames

And he did

As the empires began to rise once more

He was there, watching

It wasn't time yet.

The doctor and the year three-thousand.
