The death of the last dragonborn, Álfhildr- anonymous 4E 272

The last dragonborn's untimely death In 4E 221 came as a sudden and unexpected blow to the province of Skyrim, shaking everyone to their core. With Álfhildr no longer around to keep things in order, the land fell into disrepair. A thick blanket of sorrow choked all joy from the air and the number of dragon sightings slowly diminished. Soon enough, dragons once again became mere legend like they had never existed at all.

It's still unknown what brought Álfhildr to her demise, however there are still plenty of rumours about. Some say an unnamed warrior slayed her in battle or that she died of sickness, and others say it was a rogue dragon who killed her; it depends who you ask. Either way, we may never know the truth until we reach Sovngarde and ask Álfhildr for ourselves.

Álfhildr now rests in the extravagant tomb of 'Hvitsärk' high in the Velothi mountains to the East, overlooking The Rift and Eastmarch. Pilgrims and adventurers who make the arduous journey to Hvitsärk tell of a large, white dragon who stands guard outside, protecting the tomb and its occupant from bandits and raiders, and that with this dragon stands a stone wall covered in strange etchings in an unrecognisable, ancient language. They also tell of a stone plaque, with what is thought to be the English translation of these runes, placed next to the entrance of the tomb. It reads:

"Come the end of days, Álfhildr the last Dragonborn will descend from Sovngarde with a legendary army in tow of the greatest and bravest warriors Tamriel has ever seen in one last final battle to save Nirn from sure destruction."

It's unknown how the end of days will come, and when it will happen, but one thing is for certain: The last dragonborn never truly died.

She will make her return to Nirn.

What the wall actually says:
"Het lo faal qoth do Alfhildr, faal laat Dovahkiin ahrk krill do Alduin faal lein naak. Aan sahrot kendov ahrk kah Dovah-Fron wo krill spaan Keizaal ahrk nii muz nol dinok ahrk al. Lovaas ahrk tey do ek fen kos fun fah pogaan bok wah meyz ful rek aal neh kos vodahmin ko tiid"

"Here lies the tomb of A(Á)lfhildr, the last dragonborn and slayer of Alduin the world eater. A mighty warrior and proud dragon-kin who bravely protected Skyrim and its people from death and destruction. Songs and tales of her will be told for many eras to come so she may never be forgotten in time"
