Sleep
James Potter peeked into the living room where his best friend Sirius Black was lounged on the couch with the Potter's son Harry. Many times James and Lilly had come home from a mission or a date to see the same scene now before them. Black was a different person when around Harry, and the love he had for his godson was unconditional.
Unfortunately this was the last time Sirius would be able to see Harry unless Voldemort was killed, or, heaven forbid, something happened to the Potters. When he had first heard that he might not see his friends or young godson again, Sirius was quite incredulous. It wasn't until after he learned of the extent of the danger that his friends were in that he managed to somewhat put aside his selfish desires to continue to be with his 'family'.
Unfortunately, because of what the Order knew about the Potters, they also knew that Voldemort and his Death Eaters would stop at nothing until the Potter family was found once more.
James shook his head to clear it from thought before he turned to help Lilly dust off the ash left on her clothes from their trip by floo. Lilly smiled at Sirius in much the same way James had before she turned to her husband, her head tilted slightly in consideration.
"Should we just let them sleep and then wake him in the morning?"
James nodded. "I think that would be best. After all, this is the last Sirius is going to be able to see of him for a while."
Lilly nodded in agreement before she pulled an old quilt off the back of a chair and laid it across her son and friend. Once they were covered Lilly kissed Harry on the forehead, and as an after thought, kissed Sirius' forehead as well.
"Sleep well you two."
When she straitened she spotted James looking at her with a smirk and she tried to stifle a smile.
"What?"
James' smirk widened. "Should I be jealous?"
Lilly laughed softly as she took her husbands arm and started up the stairs.
"Absolutely." She said. "You know you've always just been a substitute."
"Is that so?" James asked. "Well in that case I'd better make the best of it."
Lilly just laughed again as her husband nudged the door to their bedroom closed.
Back in the living room Sirius chuckled at his friends' obvious happiness before he cuddled his godson closer and once again drifted off to sleep.
