Hey, I think I'm having a falling out with writing. I just can't seem to be enthralled with the fandom, or something else, I don't know. So, I'm going to finish writing The Hunter, finish helping out with Sapphire, and I think that that will be it. I don't know. I just see others so much better than me, and I envy them, I try to do what they do, and I see others get more recognition than me. I guess it may be vanity, but I've always wanted to get recognition like those big writers with thousands of followers.
I guess no one is going to read this, so it really doesn't matter what I say, but this is a one shot of Hiccup and Toothless separating for a final time, based on the song "Just like I do" by Tristam. Look it up.
Thanks for reading. I don't know who did, but you always made my day.
The sun was setting in the southwest, splashing colors across the canvass of the sky like the northern lights that would soon appear.
The last light of the day was reflected in a single tear, one that clung as tightly to Hiccup's cheek as tightly as he was clinging to the great dragon that he called his own.
Time stood still. But yet it passed too quickly for either of the friends.
It wasn't always like this, but it was now time to say goodbye.
"Yeah, I knew that this was coming for such a long time, Toothless, but can't you stay just a little longer?" Hiccup felt so powerless, like a grain of sand swirling in the sea, only able to go where the fates willed.
Astrid was there, next to hiccup. She joined in the embrace, and whispered, "We need to go." Toothless had to go. Hiccup had to stay. It wasn't fair. The tears welled up in his eyes again, blurring his vision.
"I don't- I- I Can't!" All of those memories of flying together, all those years, everything. It was going away. Why? Why?
"That's the thing about it, Hiccup." There was a short pause. "We all have to let go." That was the thing. Not everyone had to say goodbye. Not everyone was forced to watch their friend leave. So why him?
"Of all the problems we solved together, this is the one that brings us apart." Thousands of cherished memories all filled his head, only making the tears flow faster, running down his cheeks.
Toothless broke the tear-filled embrace. He looked straight into Hiccup's eyes. This was his goodbye. Not a see you soon, not a see you later, this, out of necessity, was final.
Both humans watched with puffy eyes as the Night fury slowly turned around. Spreading its wings, extending its tail fins, both one of dragons and one of humans, the one who called Hiccup rider took off, heading into the darkening sky.
Black against dark purple, the dragon flew into the cold sky, a dark silhouette, but a bright memory. It was joined by an equally black dragon, and they flew east, never once looking back.
They disappeared out of sight as the sun did, over the horizon. The sun would return. They would not.
"I hope he's okay out there." The tears had dried on Hiccup's face, but his eyes were still bloodshot, his mind was still reeling.
"They'll be alright," Astrid said. The thing was, she didn't know if they would be. They could die tomorrow, and no one would ever know.
"I just hope he misses me, just like I do."
Go out there and make a bigger splash than I did.
