It's important that you read the summary to have a better understanding of the story.
It was just the two of them in the large field.
Shikamaru laid down, hands under his head, while Temari kneeled beside him, playing with a long piece of grass.
"Alright, how about the person you'd most want to hit?" Temari asked.
"Hmm. Probably Naruto."
She laughed softly. "Why?"
"He's enthusiasm and loudness annoys me at times," he replied. "If I could find it in me I'd hit him. Even just once."
She smiled.
"You?"
Temari looked at the sky, searching for an answer. "Lee."
Shikamaru chuckled.
"He creeps me out, that's why."
"Fair enough."
They sat in relative silence, thinking of something to say or ask.
Temari let go of the blade of grass in her hand. "These conversations used to be more interesting than this."
"Not my fault."
She looked at him. "Well you were able to trust me with more things before, so in a way it is your fault."
Shikamaru, with his eyes closed, raised an eyebrow. "Mine?"
"Yeah. You don't tell me as many things any more, so we run out of things to discuss."
"Maybe that's because the trust between us has gone."
"Then maybe you need to find that trust."
He turned his head to look at her. "I don't think I can, seeing as we're no longer..."
He couldn't finish the sentence. She couldn't find the words to break the tension.
All they could do was stare, looking into sad eyes.
Shikamaru broke that, looking away and closing his eyes again.
Temari bit her lip. "Maybe doing this again so soon wasn't the best idea."
She got up and began to walk away.
Hearing her leave, Shikamaru got up to try and stop her.
"Temari, wait."
She stopped and turned around.
"Even though we no longer have anything between us, just know that I'll always..."
Words escaped him once again.
"...Yeah." He forced a smile.
She did so back, and with one last hug, she left him by himself in the field.
"And I hope," she whispered, "you know that I will always love you too."
End.
