(...1...) A different night
She had seen a demon with crimson eyes for a long time. The poor girl couldn't remember when it had started, the only thing that was clear in her mind was the fact he would come to her room every night just to watch over her dreams and turn them into nightmares. He seemed a well-known friend, one that always came like the wind and faded away in a breath.
He liked to stay by her door for a long time, like if he enjoyed hearing her heartbeats fastening at the other side of the corridor as she saw his shadow on the rise paper. When his laugh broke free, she closed her eyes and protected herself below her covers, goose bumps on her entire body.
There was a non-told rule between them. He could watch over her all the time he wanted, she could cry and shiver all night long but he had to leave in the morning.
She had kept it as a secret since it wasn't relevant for anyone. If she had told somebody about him, people would've laughed at her and said it was a childish nightmare. She had already caused quite too much trouble; she didn't wish to cause more.
Every day she would pray God for mercy since the very first ray of light. She would smile happily at bless of a new day. However, fear would overcome her again as the light reached its zenith, when shadows turned into tattoos printed on the cold ground.
She would hold tight to light's essence until it fell hurt by the beauty of a treacherous silver moon. She would catch a million cicadas to enlighten the room with stars but even the most unanimous light from her world couldn't last forever.
At night she would hear unfortunate ghosts calling her name and in a pray she would try to hide away. She would lay on her futon, begging for help. She would put her legs and torso together while she'd hold her head between her hands.
However, that fateful night the rule between her and the demon was broken. Cicadas didn't sing their gentle lullaby and water didn't fall to the pond drop by drop like it had always been. Wind stopped by midnight and the moon hid behind a dark cloud, like if both were afraid of something she couldn't foresee.
There was something not right. Putting all her bravery on her moves, she turned on candles in order to chase her fear away. A chime sounded hollow, crying painfully. Light from candles was blown out after an unprecedented complaint and the steps from outside turned louder. She listened to them carefully, one by one in a perfect rhythm. The chilled girl stood on her feet although fear was inside her, beating like her own heart. Dew inundated her forehead with a shaking coming down her spine. Night breeze came in without control, getting the room cold as moonlight showed a gloomy silhouette standing in front her.
He walked inside the room, making the wood creak. The wind messed his hair up like gold in a forbidden Eden. He smiled perversely. He bended over in front her and raised her head with his index finger.
"Good night, Chizuru."
Then her vision turned into winter mist where tears fell easily. Pain came to her body and kept growing as moon light bathed his silhouette. Suddenly her memories were tinged with an intense crimson, crimson from those eyes in middle of the still night.
