ONE
~ Rendezvous ~
A dank, moldy stench invaded her nose as she took a few hesitant steps forward. She made a short yelp as she nearly tripped and fell on the pathway laid in cobblestone. Her high heels were no match for it. Her vision was also dark. Black, satin fabric covered her eyes. However, she could hear tiny droplets of water hitting the ground below her. A few landed on her head. She could also hear an echo of her heels with every cautious step she took. She was in a tunnel. That's what logic told her. What she couldn't figure out is why?
"Move it!" A man commanded as he shoved the woman.
She yelped as she took a few staggered steps forward. Her hands were bounded behind her back preventing her from fighting and fleeing. She was kidnapped on her way home from work by a group of men in black suits. She didn't know where she was being taken or what they planned to do with her. The possibilities terrified her to the core.
"P-Please…" The woman muttered as her lips quivered in fear. "Please let me go… I-I promise I won't say anything…" She pleaded.
"Shut up!" The man yelled as he slapped her hard across her face.
The woman screeched in pain. The blow was so hard that it sent her falling to the ground. She landed in a puddle of water.
The woman began to whimper and cry inconsolably as stagnant water began to soak through her clothes. She was wholly convinced that her live was about to end.
"Get up! GET UP!" The man commanded as he jabbed the woman with his foot. He sucked his teeth in frustration when the woman did not comply.
He walked angrily towards the woman and picked her up. She yelled and screamed hysterically as she felt his hands wrap around her waist. He hoisted her over his shoulder and carried her down a long service tunnel. There was a black car waiting for them at the end of the passageway. The man opened the door and placed the woman inside.
"Let me go… please! I beg you!" The woman sobbed.
"If you value your life, do not speak another word." Her kidnapper threatened.
She sniffled and nodded; deciding to heed his warning.
The man grunted angrily as he slammed the door. He entered the car and the vehicle quickly sped off into the night.
"Aww fuck, what time is it?" Bryan said as he glanced at his phone. He sighed in frustration when realized how late it was in the afternoon.
He slowly got up from his seat and began to walk down a long hallway of a very busy corporate research facility. He casually observed people was they quickly wisp by. The building was filled with scientists, doctors, engineers, and other reputable people with fancy college degrees. Bryan on the other hand, couldn't say the same for himself. All he had was a measly certificate from a police academy. He didn't have the brains to mingle with the geniuses that surrounded him. Despite that, he still belonged there, he only served a different purpose.
Bryan made his way to the elevators and repeatedly pressed the button to summon one of them. He was impatient. He was ready to call it a day; wanting to leave this corporate, sterile place for something more casual and relaxed. He thought about having a few drinks and watching the game at the local bar or perhaps he might visit a strip club. He deviously smirked at the thought.
However, the man on top wanted to meet with him before setting him free to do as he please. He thought about all the wicked things he could do to him for bothering him near the end of the day. He despised being at his beck and call. It was very excruciating but, he had to pay the price for his disobedience and unruliness in the past. He cannot risk repeating it, not anymore.
The elevator arrived and he entered. He pressed the button for the highest floor. He leaned against the wall and let out a frustrated sigh as he watched the elevator doors slowly closed.
Nina was sitting in a conference room casually observing a couple of women as they cleaned and prepared the place for a meeting. She was bored. She let out a sigh as she pulled out a bullet from her pants pocket and began to twirl the tiny ballistic between her fingers.
The two women glanced at her uneasily as they cleaned. They were afraid of her and rightly so. She is known as the 'Silent Assassin' for her cold, icy nature and the dark rumors that surrounded her. The two woman let out a silent gasp and froze when they saw her playing with the bullet.
Nina stopped and looked at them. She immediately sucked her teeth in annoyance. "Hurry up!" She commanded sternly as glared them.
The two women quickly did as they were told. They were determined to work even harder to make sure they didn't upset her further.
Nina leaned back into her chair and continued to twirl the weapon between her fingers. She knew who her boss was meeting with. It was someone he hasn't spoken to in years and totally despise. She thought their lives would never cross paths again, but somehow they were. Curiosity rattled her brain as the wondered what the meeting could possibly be about. The man who hired her didn't disclose any details, he simply told her to be patient and wait.
Her cellphone suddenly rang, jolting her from her thoughts. She pulled out her phone and realized it was her boss. She quickly exited the conference room and went into the hallway, leaving the women to finish their cleaning. She cleared her throat before answering the phone.
"Hello." She said in a stern tone.
"Nina, what is the progress so far?"
"It's looking good, they should be finished soon."
"Good…Check on security. Make sure those guards are alert and ready."
She wanted to ask him for more information about the impending meeting, but she knew it wasn't a good idea. The man was very short tempered, she didn't want to anger him.
"Yes, sir." She sighed resignedly.
She ended the call and placed the phone into her white, pants pocket. She fixed her red blouse before heading towards the elevators.
Bryan entered an overly sized office. The décor was ultra-modern and sterile. The walls were covered in shiny, white, marble tiles which contrast with the black, granite floor. The room had a very high ceiling with expensive looking light fixtures hanging from it. The other end of the office had large, tinted windows. The sun was setting. The remaining light entered the office and reflected off of the shiny tiles giving the room a luminescent glow.
Bryan squinted as he walked into the room. He hated sunlight. It hurt his eyes and hindered his vision. It was a weakness he has yet to overcome and he despised being reminded of his weaknesses. A stainless-steel desk with a glass top came into view. Behind it was his boss, Lee Chaolan.
Lee is the CEO of Violet Systems. A research facility focused in the field of robotics. The name of the company was all that remained after Lee got rid of his ridiculous 'Violet' persona; a failed attempt at appearing smart and eccentric. He dyed his hair purple and paraded around in frilly shirts and leather pants in order to garner attention for his company. It was years ago when he was newly established. He quickly removed the dye from his hair and threw out all his garish clothing after embarrassing himself during the fourth Iron Fist tournament.
Bryan sat down on a steel chair located in front of Lee's desk. He squinted at the man while using his hand to shield himself from the sun. Lee was busy scribbling notes onto a pad.
"Why hello Bryan, I hoped the day has treated you well." He greeted without taking his eyes off his notes.
"Well, Lee, It's been alright until I had to come to your office with all this god-damned sun." Bryan said feeling thoroughly annoyed.
Concerned, Lee took a look at Bryan and realized why he was upset. He then looked over his shoulder to the far corner of the office where Anna was seated. She was on a couch flipping through a fashion magazine.
"Anna!" Lee said in an adoring tone. "Would you please be a dear and draw the shades. I forgot our friend Bryan does not like the sun much." Lee turned back around and continued to scribble away on his note pad.
Anna sighed as she tossed the magazine aside in annoyance. She got up and made her way to a control panel located near the couch. She pressed a few buttons and the blinds slowly started to come down from the ceiling. They only limited the amount of light coming into the room.
Anna then made her way towards the desk, walking very seductively in her bright red heels. She was wearing a red, Asian-styled dress with floral patterns along with black, fishnet stockings.
Bryan, slouched in his chair, watched her while she walked. A very wicked grin grew on his lips. He thought very little of her… Very little. She reminded him of the type of women he tends to meet in certain bars and clubs. The loose kind. She was just a little more expensive. Bryan was certain that Anna who would sleep with any man so as long as their wallet was fat enough. And Lee's defiantly was.
She stood next to Lee, bent down and gave him a loving kiss on his cheek. She looked over at Bryan and gave him a nice, welcoming smile. Most people are intimidated by him, and rightfully so. He has scars all over his body and those piercing, unblinking, blue eyes that seem to bore holes into anyone's soul if they dare look for too long. His crass and arrogant demeanor also frightened people… or disgusted them. However, she wasn't frightened or intimidated by the man. As long as Lee is around, he was no more dangerous than a puppy on a leash.
"Hello Bryan." She said with sensual flair.
Bryan remained quiet. He leered at her immodestly and without breaking eye contact, he slowly licked his lips.
Anna immediately looked away feeling totally and utterly disgusted. Bryan chuckled.
"Ugh! Bryan, really? Your mother never taught you how to treat a lady?"
He grinned as he decided to toy with her a little more. "Huh… That's funny." Bryan said curiously as he cocked his head to the side. "I don't see any ladies here? Well… not the classy ones at least." He grinned.
Anna was dumbfounded by his statement. For Bryan, her expression was priceless. He laughed out loud.
"Alright Bryan, that's enough." Lee interjected calmly before Anna can return a retort. He knew what Bryan was doing, and Anna falls for it each and every time. He always starts these little spats with her for his own amusement. He enjoyed getting under her skin.
Bryan stopped laughing, but continued to look at the woman with an arrogant smirk in an attempt to annoy her further.
Anna couldn't stand it and grunted in frustration. "Lee… Really!?" She said flustered. "Aren't you going to reprimand him?" She angrily pointed at Bryan.
"Anna, please…" Lee pleaded as he tried to maintain his patience. "Bryan does this all the time and you always fall for it. He is just trying to get a rise out of you."
Anna grunted angry as she crossed her arms; not wanting to say anything more. He's right, she thought to herself.
Lee sighed resignedly; sensing their little spat was over. "Okay Bryan, we're running short on time so I'll be blunt." He said calmly as he looked at him. "I need you to come with me to a meeting."
Bryan was angry. "Huh!? Whatever the fuck for Lee?" He yelled out. The man was eating away at his free time and he didn't like it one bit. He wondered why he even bothered to ask him. It's not like he could refuse. That option didn't exist for him. "Can't you get one of your goons to take you!?"
Lee sighed as he passed a hand through his hair. "I can't. The meeting involves you…"
"Huh?" Bryan was both surprised and puzzled. "Me?"
"I'm afraid so, although I am not certain why." Lee pondered for a moment. "Anyway, the meeting starts in little over an hour, so I suggest you gather your things."
Bryan was perplexed. He wondered who could possibly want a meet him and why. "Wait a minute." He said as he looked at Lee probingly. "Where's this meeting? Who are we meeting with?"
"G-Corp." Anna interjected haughtily. "We have a meeting with Kazuya Mishima."
Nina was making her final rounds around the large office building. She visited the security room to discuss and review all procedures and protocols with the guards. She also made sure all the cameras are working. She checked the conference room once more and saw that everything was ready. The women who were cleaning the room earlier had already left for the day.
She was keeping herself busy; trying to kill some time. She wanted to go around and check all the entrances and exits to make sure everything was safe and secure but, her phone rang before she could go and do it. She took the phone out her pocket and answered it.
"Hello Sir."
"Nina, come to my office."
"But, I haven't finished securing the building Sir." She said feeling a little surprised.
"We have no more time for that… our guests have arrive. Come to my office, now."
"Y-Yes sir, I'll be right there." She quickly ended the call.
They are here, she thought. She couldn't help but feel a little anxious. She was eager to find out what was going and what this meeting was all about. Nina quickly pocketed her phone and made her way to Kazuya Mishima's office.
