The view is breathtaking. For years it had represented something to Dean. More than just a sight. It was freedom. Hope of a new kind future. Something he never would've guessed he'd ever experience.
Grand Canyon.
"Whoa…" Dean breaths after a few minutes of silence. Sam pats him on the back a wide simile on his face.
"We're finally here," Dean sighs and turns to Castiel. Castiel's face is blank - as always - but his eyes are sparkling.
"You like the view?" Dean asks putting his arm on the shoulder of the calm angel. Cas gives Dean a small nod.
"Yes. This is truly amazing," Cas says. He doesn't look at Dean, his eyes glued on the sunset.
"I have to say. All of of… Definitely worth this," Sam laughs.
"Oh yeah!" Dean replies giving his brother a bright smile. A smile without any pain. Dean's first in years. And he was going to wear it as long as possible.
Sam yawns, stretching his long arms. He mumbles something about sleep and motel or something.
"Yeah, just a sec. I just… I need this moment."
"Dean, we can come back tomorrow."
"I know but… I just wouldn't be the same," Dean whispers a smile on his face. Sam chuckles, walking back to the Impala.
"You're such a girl! I'll wait in the car."
"Fuck you!" Dean tries to punch his brother, but he's already gone. He turns to look at Cas, who's still amazed by the view. And the angel looks pretty beautiful the sunbeams of the setting sun on his face. Especially his eyes, which looks bluer than ever.
"If I'd known you would like this so much, I would've taken you here years ago," Dean laughs, standing a little closer to Cas. Cas turns away from the sunset to look Dean in the eyes.
"It would've not been the same."
No, it wouldn't. It would've been an escape. A last chance. And now, this was… A victory after a war. And they'd won.
"Yeah, I think you're right," Dean laughs putting an arm around Castiel.
"Let's think about this as an reward. A beautiful reward."
"I like that thought."
That smile on his face, the way his face beams, his eyes fixed on his own, Dean thinks Castiel looks more beautiful than ever. Since when did everything become so beautiful? Sam's right, he really is such a girl!
"It's okay, to think that everything is beautiful. After everything you've gone through…"
"Cas, are you reading my mind again?" Dean teases. Cas blushes lightly, so human thing to do. The angel is finally learning.
"I apologize," Cas lowers his gaze ashamed. Dean just laughs, cups Cas' face and carefully lifts his head to face the angel.
"Let's play a game! What am I thinking now?" Dean smirks, winking at Cas. He can see Cas concentrating, clearly reading what's on Dean's mind. After a second, Cas' face flushes red.
"De-Dean… You really don't want that… What if Sam sees?" Castiel stammers, it's the first time ever. Dean's smirk grows even wider.
"Yes, I do, and I really don't fucking care," Dean whispers to Cas' ear, lowering his hands to Cas' waist, sealing their lips into a kiss.
