The Sound of Music – A true take on the Movie

The purpose of this introductory statement is to inform you of how and why Baron Georg Ritter von Trapp and his new wife, Maria Kutschera von Trapp. She did indeed serve as Governess to his four boys and five girls, Rupert, Agatha, Maria, Werner, Hedwig, Johann, Johanna, Wilhelm, and Martina. One fall, young Maria was ill, and Georg had to hire a tutor for her. He picked a young Novice from Nonnburg Abbey, who later became his wife. But, in a twist on the movie, Maria was the stern one, and Georg was the kind hearted one. After their marriage, three more children came, Rosemary, Eleanor, and Johannes. After an economic blunder, in which Georg transferred his wealth from London, to a bank in Salzburg, and the bank eventually crashed, causing the von Trapp family to get poor in a second. A young priest came to live with them at this time, Franz Wasner. In 1938, after the Anschluss of Austria, the von Trapps were ordered to perform at the birthday rally of Nazi dictator, Adolf Hitler. Georg refused outright, and the family fled to Italy by train. As Maria said after seeing the musical 'If we had gone over the Alps, we would have walked right into Berchesgarden.' From Italy, the family fled to America, where Georg died in 1947, and Maria in 1987.
