Bittersweet
NejiXTenten. Is her imagination working overtime? Just where or what are they exactly? Their love is surreal and yet, impossibly delectable.

The late afternoon sun is about to bow, casting hues of oranges and reds. The arid air is slowly giving way to a cooler temperature. Another training session has ended. Several bowl-shaped depressions decorated the ground while grazes of weapons marked the nearby trees.
She practically dragged herself to sit under one of those trees to rest her tired body. He walked over to take his place beside her as he removed the dirtied bandages on his right arm. She laughed a little, watching the genius struggle with the simple task.
"Do you need help with that?" She asked.
"No. I can manage."
"Stubborn." She sighed.
She proceeded to sharpen her weapons while he closed his eyes, as if to slumber. It was the perfect picture. It was their perfect picture. Because dreamy kisses while cherry blossoms sway to the mild breeze was never them.
It may be painful to fall for someone like him. He doesn't care about those things. But he doesn't have to. The nods exchanged between them are enough. They have that kind of connection- a connection exclusive to the two of them, a connection that no one else can comprehend. An understanding built on years of trust and respect, years of friendship- years that only seem like days for time flies when they are together, and stalls when they are apart.
It may be insane to say that they are lovers. He didn't promise anything. But he didn't have to. In their quaint moments, the covenants are made with fleeting glances. Words were not important, nor necessary for them. Words only hinder. Words were too much. They don't need certainty or assurances. Those things such as flowers and rings are unfamiliar to them. There is no need for remembrances when there is nothing forgotten.
Sometimes she asks herself why him. Sometimes she asks herself how it came to be. And in truth, sometimes she feels sad. Does he really feel the way she does? After all, she has nothing else aside from speculation and instinct. But he doesn't even look at any other girl, does he?
"You need to improve on your strategizing…"
"Your attacks are easily read, too simple." He continued.
"Hey, I predicted some of your moves too!"
He smirked. Of course they know each other's abilities, techniques, strengths and weaknesses. Isn't she the only person whom he told the secrets of the Byakugan to? For her to know something so important, something that his life depended on. It means something, doesn't it?
"Let's get going." He said as he stood up.
She looked up at the boy, whose arm was stretched, reaching out to her. She smiled as she took his hand. Right from the start she has always believed that the two of them are meant to be, intertwined, tangled. And in his own ways, unique to him alone, he tells her so.
They walked side by side, holding each other's hands. She had to stare, noting how their fingers laced together. Like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle taking their appropriate places to make something with sense. He glanced at her and smiled at the occupied look on her face.
"Do you want anything?"
"Huh?" She looked up at him.
"Well, you seem different today." He said, looking curiously at her.
She smiled and gently shook her head.
"How can I ask for anything else?" She thought.
Next to you is all I want.
