Once upon a time there was a girl named Pandora who lived in the land of the rising sun. She was the prettiest of all woman and also had the kindest of all hearts, and men all over the country came to ask for her hand, offering her and her family the most beautiful or useful gifts and sometimes even large amounts of money, but her family and she always declined, for the young Pandora was already in love.

The name of her love was Kurogawa Tatsuro, a kind man known all over the country for his fine jewelry and his incredible magic tricks. The two had met long ago, during the night the moon hid behind the earth his shadow and the whole town had gone to the fields of moon flowers in the valley near their town to honor this event. That had been the night the two families had met and the two children had played till sunset.

Ever since that day Pandora had loved Tatsuro, and for years it had seemed he loved her back. Thus the families decided to talk on marriage. However, when Pandora turned sixteen and Tatsuro seventeen, the boy grew colder and distant, and the once so tight bond between the two teenagers grew weak, much to Pandora's dismay.

Unwilling to give up on their relationship she did everything to keep the two of them together, but despite all this her tries were futile and made the two of them grow apart even more.

How this broke her, how desperate she was to gain her love his heart. Knowing nothing would help her now Pandora went to her old friend and begged him to return her love, but against her expectations her love was kind and told her he'd give her a chance.

"If you truly love me, visit the place we met at the night of the full moon and bring me a bouquet of the rare full-moon flowers." Not thinking much of the request, Pandora agreed happily, and one night, when the moon was full and the full-moon flowers should be in full bloom, Pandora visited the moon valley.

But as she made her way to the valley she was surprised by a rockslide and fall into a hole in the ground that lead to a hidden cave, landing on a field of beautiful white flowers that turned crimson as they were drained in blood, that soaked the dry earth around Pandora's body and soon the flowers bloomed, showing their now crimson leaves to the pale moonlight.

That night the young girl died, however, before her soul could cross a crimson witch appeared and spoke to her.

"I can help you." the witch said in a low voice as she caught Pandora's soul, "During this night a comet will cross the earth, giving me the power to lock your soul into a gem. Once I've succeeded I'll leave you with your love so you can be with him forever."

At this Pandora felt delighted and agreed on the witch's plan, and thus the crimson witch rose her hands to the sky, holding a pale crystal in one hand and Pandora's soul in the other, and when the comet passed the earth, the gem and Pandora were molten together.

As promised the witch returned Pandora to her love his hands the same night, but the witch had planned more than she had told the girl.

Without mentioning her soul the with had left her with her love, who, without caring, put her on a shelf on the far back, where he, over time, forgot her existence, and once even the girl's parents had returned to their everyday life the witch appeared again. But this time she came to steal Tatsuro his heart and marry him, and all Pandora could do was watch from her shelf and feel her heart shatter as the two got children and grandchildren and eventually grew old and died.

Generation after generation passed, and as time went on, the girl named Pandora was slowly forgotten, doomed to shed her tears for an eternity.
