"For alwayz being there for me" (Christian Fic)

Nicole awoke to the sound of knocking on her hotel room door. She got out of bed in her baby blue silk pajama bottoms and her white tank top and made her way to the door. She opened the door, surprised at who was there.

"Jay?" She questioned sleepily.

"Um… yeah Nic, can we talk?" Jay asked. Nicole looked up at him, noting the seriousness in his eyes and voice. She nodded and let him in the room.

Yawning, she turned back to him. "What's up? Why are you up now?"

"I couldn't sleep, I…um… me and Denise…" He trailed off, with a sad look on his handsome face.

"Jay, what's going on? What about you and Denise?" Nicole asked curiously.

"She broke up with me." Jay answered quietly.

"She what?" Nicole asked, unsure of whether or not she had heard him right.

Jay sighed and looked away. "She broke up with me." He replied his voice little more than a whisper.

"Oh Jay, I'm sorry." Nicole said sympathetically. She walked over to where he was standing and looked at him. Her heart broke as she noticed the tears welling up in his eyes.

Wiping the tears from his eyes, he looked down at Nicole. "I don't know what happened. She just said things weren't working out." Taking a deep breath, Jay let a stray tear fall down his face as he continued. "I thought she was the one. I was going to buy her an engagement ring and everything."

"Man, Jay I'm so sorry. You don't deserve this." Nicole assured him. She reached up and wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him into a hug.

Jay responded, placing his arms around her waist. "Maybe I did deserve it." He whispered, hoping Nicole wouldn't hear.

Pulling back, Nicole looked into Jay's eyes. "Jay, don't even say that. Why would you deserve this?" She questioned. Jay shrugged.

"Well, I was never around, maybe if I had been…" He let his voice fade away. Feeling tears come to his eyes, he turned his head from Nicole.

"Jay…" Nicole started, attempting to make eye contact. Placing her hand under his chin, she forced him to look at her. "She knew what you did for a living when she met you. You can't give up what you love because someone else doesn't like it. If she had loved you for you, she wouldn't have had a problem with you being away."

Jay smiled slightly and nodded. "I guess you're right Nic." He said quietly.

"I know I am." Nicole said with a smile. She reached up and wiped away the tears on his face. "Any better?" She questioned.

Nodding, Jay replied. "Yeah, thanks Nic." He said, smiling.

"Ok, I need to go back to sleep. I'll never be able to have a match tomorrow." Nicole said, starting to pull away from Jay.

Not letting go, Jay smiled. Nicole turned back around and looked at him.

"What?" She said quietly.

Suddenly, Jay leaned down and pressed his lips to hers. After the shock wore off, Nicole started to kiss him back, letting her fingers play with his newly short hair.

Pulling away, Jay grinned at her surprised expression.

Breathing deeply, Nicole asked, "What was that for?"

"For being my friend and helping me." He responded, shrugging. "Ok I'm gonna go back to my room and go to bed. He smiled and headed towards the door.

Before he could make it to the door, Nicole grabbed his arm.

"What?" He asked.

Nicole smiled slyly and grabbed his hand. "You don't have to leave." Jay laughed and let her lead him to her room. He smiled and kissed her softly whispering, "Thank you for always being there for me." Before closing the door behind them.
