DG sat and stared at a picture of Glitch. She hadn't slept for days. Tears dripped down her face as she reached over and grabbed the arm on the record player, resetting the needle to the beginning of the old '45 that was playing a familiar song.
Whoa, my love, my darling
I've hungered for your touch
A long, lonely time...
She closed her eyes and set her hand down at her side, clutching at the kleenex crumpled up in her palm.
"Why?" She whimpered, the tears falling heavier now than before. She clutched at his old white button-down shirt, pulling it tight around her like a cottony embrace.
The song began an upswell, her heart beat faster and harder as an invisible hand brushed a tear away from her cheek. She looked around, not so much startled as eager, hoping it was him standing in front of her, but it wasn't.
Lonely rivers flow to the sea, to the sea.
To the open arms of the sea, yeah...
Glitch did stand before her. He stood before her, pacing, running his fingers through his hair. The zipper wasn't there anymore. It hadn't been there since... Well it just hadn't been there for a while.
His chin crumpled with the threat of tears. She couldn't see him... she wouldn't see him..
Lonely rivers sigh: wait for me, wait for me.
I'll be comin' home, wait for me, yeah...
Whoa, my love
My darlin'
I hunger- hunger for your touch
A long, lonely time.
He reached forward again, his concentration shattered by desparation, his hand passing through her. All he needed was to touch her... just once more...he couldn't bear to see her hurt so much.
"DG? Please say you can hear me..."
DG put her face in her hands, crying aloud as she suddenly felt him there. She couldn't hear him by any means, nor could she see him, but she definitely felt him. She dried her eyes and tried hard to focus.
"You know I'm here, don't you?"
And time goes by... so slowly.
And time can do so much...
"Are you still mine?" His voice broke the second he knew she had actualized him once again and he went to his knees. She could hear him... she could see him... She could feel him... "I need your love!" He cried out, his voice ringing through the rafters of their loft. "I need your love..."
