Jackie Hopper glanced at the house she was moving in next door to. It was big, strong…and yet, something about it was strange. She looked up as she heard a car go into the driveway. It was a green car, sort of glamorous. A lady with short brown hair got out, with a teenage boy around Jackie's age with brown hair, and another boy with dark skin and black hair. A girl got out too, and she had bushy black hair. "Jackie, stop dawdling! This stuff won't get into the house on its own!"Jackie's grandpa called. This made the girl look up and glance at Jackie, who quickly looked away when the others looked at her as well. "Sorry, I got distracted!" Jackie shouted back to her grandpa.
When all their stuff was unpacked, Jackie went for a walk. As she walked past the house next door to hers, she glanced up at the attic. She sighed and walked on, wondering if she'd fit in here. On her way back, Jackie bumped into the teenage boy with brown hair she'd seen before. "Sorry." Jackie said, looking up at his eyes. "No, it's my fault, don't worry about it." The boy said. "I'm Luke, what's your name?" he added. "Jackie, it's nice to meet you Luke." Jackie smiled. |"So do you live next door to us?" Luke asked. "Yeah, I moved in earlier." Jackie told him. "Luke, come back!" a girl's voice called. Jackie raised her eyebrows. "Ah, I had an argument with Maria, mum and Clyde." Luke explained. Jackie remembered those people getting out of the car. "Do you want to talk about it?" Jackie asked softly. Luke considered, and then nodded, and they walked to the school and sat on the wall together. Luke explained about the argument. "So basically they're trying to control your life?" Jackie asked when he was finished. Luke nodded. Jackie moved a little closer to him on the wall.
"I know how you feel. I used to feel that when I was with my friends sometimes." Jackie whispered. Clyde suddenly spotted them and ran over. "Hey Luke! Hey, whoever you are." Clyde said, not taking any interest in asking who Jackie was. "Why'd you run off, Luke-y boy?" Clyde asked. Jackie jumped down from the wall. "I'll see you around, Luke." She said, and then walked away, unaware that Luke watched her until she was out of sight.
A scream echoed through the air the next morning. Clyde groaned and looked at Luke's clock. Clyde had stayed the night. It was 7:00 am. He stood up and rushed to the window, Luke on his tail. There, in the middle of the road, was a Bane. And in front of it…
"Jackie!" Clyde yelled. He had learnt about her and secretly thought she was kind of cool. He pulled on a sweater, trousers and shoes and ran down the stairs. Sarah Jane was trying to reason with the Bane, but it was tormenting Jackie and not listening.
