Chapter One: Awakening
I woke from my slumber panting and covered in sweat. The killer headache I had before I fell asleep was not getting better ether. "Shit, just my luck…" I murmured quietly to myself, careful not to invoke my headache's wrath. It was 11:30 PM, Just 30 minutes away from the day of my 18th birthday. I stumble outside for some fresh air, shutting the door like a shadow. I had to give my parents some rest; they had been tending to me all day. "Awaken to your true self, young one…" I whip my head around, wincing as my headache screamed in agony. The space around me was empty; the rustling of wind thru the trees was all that could be heard. I look at the clock. 5 seconds till midnight. 4... 3... 2… 1… I heard a loud screech and doubled over. When I came to, my parents were screaming my name. "Are you alright?" My dad whispers. I try to answer, but I can't. I can hear the sound of their blood flowing through their veins. It sounds wonderful. I want it. Now. I snap my father's neck back and sink my teeth into the soft flesh, making sure every last drop of the precious red fluid reached my stomach. That's when my mother came out. She dropped the phone and let out a bloodcurdling scream. My glowing red eyes was the last thing she saw before I drained her.
Sirens brought me back to reality. The dead bodies of my mother and father lay sprawled out on the ground. I did the only thing I could. Ran. I ran far and fast into the state park behind our house. When I finally stopped, the sirens were long lost in the wilderness. I settle down under a giant tree and began to weep. What happened to me? Just the thought of their blood made me salivate. Something twitched next to me, and I grab it. I then realized what exactly my mother screamed about. Jagged scales cover all of my body, excluding the chest and stomach area, although it did cover the important parts. Red talons adorn my hands and feet, along with three long tails and dragon like wings. I looked like a real demon. I sat there contemplating what next when an old man came up and introduced himself. "Hello there, I haven't seen a demon like you in over 2000 years! I am the wandering reaper, Oromis. What is your name?" I stare at him. Before I could answer, He declares; "Oh silly me, I forgot your kind cannot speak, my apologies." He turns to walk away, but stops when I answer. "Kim". He turns slowly, and stares, his eyes gleaming with curiosity. "I never thought I would see a speaking ancient demon. What is your heritage?" I reply with "A human mother and lord knows what for a father. I never saw him. It was a one night stand." He then speaks the words that would change my life forever.
"Come with me. I, The Wandering Reaper, will teach you all you need to know about Demons, weaponry and the rest of the folks we share this planet with."
I rose, and followed him to his home.
