Spyglass
The waves make sounds of jubilee,
The seagulls sing in reverie.
Upon the beach I stand alone,
Staring out into the sea.
…
Islands in the distance seen,
While upon their shores the sunlight gleams.
I stand upon the shores of home,
Yet my mind wanders, as I dream.
…
I see fish swim by to and fro.
Pebbles tossed into waves so.
To reach one of these distant lands,
How far would I have to go?
…
In silence, I take my spyglass,
My right eye its baton masks.
Hold it with a pair of hands,
My sight my yearning could outlast?
…
And so I wait until the night,
So fades the day and dims the light.
Tummy rumbles, Grandma calls,
Hunger this time wins the fight.
…
But the sea and sky remain,
In thunder, lightning, sunlight, rain.
Oh one day I'll see them all,
From adventure won't refrain.
