After all that had happened with the group, Hawke just couldn't handle it anymore. Everyone had pretty much scattered to the winds and left Kirkwall behind. There is only a select few left... Aveline, she's the captain of guard and has never been one to leave something behind so she would stay until she felt her job was done. Then there is Anders... Hawke rubs his face with his hands as he stares out across the bay. Anders... That one name alone makes his blood boil. Anders ruined everyone's lives by blowing up the Chantry. Hawke feels his fists clench, his inner blood mage beginning to awaken, as he becomes angrier at the memory. To try and calm himself down, Hawke takes a deep breath, letting it out slowly as he feels his anger slowly melting away. Another person that is still in the city is his lover, (Name). Hawke feels his mouth turn into a frown. How was he going to tell her that he was leaving Kirkwall? His heart begins to break at the thought... He can't stay here anymore. The looks that everyone gives him. The fear in their eyes when he walks down the street. The way the female merchants jerk away, and all he is doing is trying to pay for his goods, as if though he's going to hurt them if they say or move the wrong way. In slight defeat, Hake leans forward to rest on the railing leaning slightly over the bay as he shifts his weight a little. His mind wanders until after a while, he lets out a huff of a breath before nodding his head. His mind is set on his decision. There's no stopping him now. With his decision made, Hawke heads towards the front gates of the city. On his way, he hopes he doesn't meet anyone he knows but, just his luck, he meets Varric along the way and he tries to pretend he didn't even notice him.
"Hey Hawke it's been a while. How are you doing?" Varric falls in step next to Hawke's slow strides. Hawke grunts.
"Hello Varric." He says with a monotone voice, causing Varric look up at him curiously.
"Where are you going?" Hawke stops and without turning around to look at Varric he says curtly,
"I'm leaving the city Varric." Hawke states. Varric crosses his arms over his broad dwarf chest.
"What about (Name)? Does she know you're leaving?" Hawke stiffens visibly and Varric throws his arms up in the air. "Maker Hawke. You can't just leave her behind like this!" Hawke turns with his eyes narrowed angrily.
"I'm leaving Varric. You can't stop me." Varric puts up his hands at Hawke's words.
"I'm not trying to stop you Hawke. Just trying to help you out in the long run." Hawke stands up straighter and seems to look down his nose at Varric.
"I just need some time away from the city Varric. I can't be here anymore. Make up a cover story for me or something... The looks people give me because of what Anders did. They look at me like I'm a damn monster." With each word Hawke begins pacing back and forth, his hands movements becoming more and more noticeable as he continues speaking. Varric watches this with a blank facial expression but his eyes hold anger in them. Varric crosses his arms again as he stares up at the angry mage before him.
"You're not the only life he has ruined Hawke. Think about what everyone else is going through too." Hawke steps up into Varric's personal space. Hawke looms over Varric in a menacing manner that makes Varric's anger rise as well.
"I've been worrying about other people since I landed in this God forsaken city. Everyone else can take care of themselves. Even (Name)." Hawke is slightly surprised when Varric's eyes narrow in disgust.
"(Name) doesn't need you Hawke. She wants you. None of your friends need you. We want you as our friend."
"What does that mean?" Hawke demands angrily, crossing his own arms over his chest. Varric throws his hands up in the air while turning away before walking off a little bit.
"We love you Hawke, you're our friend. But you're the who made the choice to try and save the whole damned city. Heck, you did a great job until Anders unraveled it all with one move. But that doesn't mean you should up and leave the rest of us behind after all we'd been through together. We've had your back since day one." Hawke begins shaking his head at Varric's words, his anger tainting his mind.
"You just tagged along Varric. It was I who took the fall and the blame for everyone. You're right, it was my choice to try and make this God forsaken city a better place but I should have left and let you all rot in hell with the choices you made!" Hawke steps back before turning on his heel and walking off.
"What about (Name)?" Varric hollers out, making a few passer byers look at him with slight fear when he had called out. Hawke keeps storming off as he yells over his shoulder,
"I wish I had never met her!" Hawke spats back angrily before disappearing from sight but Varric stills shakes his head. He knows his friend is angry but, he can't think of anyway to stop Hawke from leaving. If his mind is set on something, Varric know there is no changing it. Varric rubs the back of his neck. How the hell is he going to explain this to (Name)? Varric throws up his hands once more before turning on his own heel and slowly trudging back to The Hanged Man to rest and think. He'd have to come up with a cover story for Hawke if (Name) would even buy it...
"(Name) is going to be heart broken." Varric whispers to himself before shaking his head again. "And I'm the only one left to pick up the pieces."
