Title: Always and Forever
Summary: 'You'll always look after me, won't you Knives?' 'Of course.' The twins talk while the SEED ship argues over who will take care of them.
"Knives?"
"Yes, Vash?"
"You'll…always….look after me, right?"
"Of course." Knives hugged his younger brother closer, watching as the humans argued over who was supposed to look after them.
"No matter what?" Vash insisted, looking at the crew with a tinge of fear in his eyes.
"Always and forever, Vashu."
"I'll always look after you too, yeah?" He looked back at Knives, staring at him.
"We're brothers Vashu, we look out for each other." Knives ran one hand through Vash's soft hair, and the younger twin relaxed a little more.
"Which one will be taking care of us?" Vash blinked at the humans, who were starting to raise their voices.
"I'll be taking care of you Vash, they don't matter," Knives reassured him as Vash scooted away from the yelling humans, closer to Knives. "But they'll probably make a female do it. That's how humans work."
"Oh." Vash bit his lip, looking at all the women. "They don't look very nice, Knives. You won't let them do anything to me, will you?"
"Of course not, brother. Why are you so suspicious today?"
"Sorry! Just…It's weird. Like they don't think we can take care of ourselves. And they're scary, they're so loud…" Vash's eyes widened when one of the women slapped a man across the face, "Why did she hit him? That's mean!"
Knives continued to finger comb his twin's hair, watching the argument suspiciously, "It is mean, isn't it? She shouldn't do that." He looked down at his worried brother. "Don't worry Vashu, I wouldn't let anyone do that to you. I'm gonna look after you. I won't even let them near you."
"Good. They're scary, Knives." Knives glared at the humans as Vash turned to burrow into his chest.
"It'll be fine. We'll be fine. If I have to, I'll take us away from the humans."
"You promise?" The younger plant's voice was muffled from being pressed against Knives' chest.
"Yes Vash, I promise." Knives scowled at the humans for scaring Vash. Didn't they know that Vash was the most important thing ever? No one was supposed to upset Vash.
"Which one is kindest, Knives? I don't want to look."
Knives frowned as he picked through the mob of humans, arguing. "Some woman with long black hair. She isn't screaming like the others." He squeezed Vash gently. "But I won't let her get near you either. Just in case."
"Oh. What are we going to do when they finish yelling?" That was Vash, short attention span and all.
What would he do without Vash? Knives shuddered and pulled him closer. He wouldn't, he couldn't live without his twin.
"I heard they have some books I haven't read yet." Knives smiled faintly, and Vash giggled. "Hey! Why are you laughing at me, Vashu?"
"Because it's nice."
"Laughing at me is 'nice'?"
"Nooooo…It's nice that they have new books for you. I like it when you have books, cos you're happy."
Knives smiled again. "Fine, but don't use 'nice', it's a weak word."
"Oh, okay. What'll I do while you read your books?"
Knives looked at the humans' argument, which was starting to break up. "Vash things, like drawing, and I'll read to you, okay?"
"Okay! Have they finished yet?"
"Mhm." Knives hugged him tighter when Vash made a tiny moan when he heard footsteps. He glared at the black haired woman swaying over to them. "Don't worry Vashu, I won't let them near you."
